While messing around in Survival mode, I realized that long-term survival is all but impossible by yourelf. You might last a long time, enough to get a decent base, maybe (when they come out) some armor and weapons... but eventually, you will die, either by biting off more than you can chew or by just being unlucky (stumbing into a cave of doom while mining, being pushed off a ledge by an enemy that spawned behind you, being ambushed in your "safe" castle, etc.)
In many ways, it reminds me of the game Left 4 Dead- if you're alone, you WILL eventually die. So, my main question for this topic is: Will Survival mode ever be multiplayer, either co-op or freestyle (you can choose to work together or not)? If so, how would that work?
-Clearly there would have to be a small player limit.
-Would servers be permanently up or would a group of players need to start a new game every time they wanted to play?
-How would resource depletion work?
-How would we prevent griefers from chasing Creepers into us and detonating them?
-What about trading, how would that work (since we can't drop stuff without placing it)?
I see a lot of potential in Survival, especially if it were made MP and it was Freestyle rather than enforced co-op. Think about it: In the early hours of a new game, everyone is fending for themselves, killing creepers, trying to carve out a niche for themselves. Eventually they band together, become more powerful, work together to create a safe place for their forge. Now they have weapons and armor, and the monsters are all but eliminated- when suddenly they realize, they're not alone. A different group on the other side of the map has made a castle of their own! And they're not friendly...
Survival Mode will be multiplayer. Just take a look at Notch's last devlog post :biggrin.gif:

I am also wondering about the player death scenario in multiplayer. Will there be respawning? Will players be able to join a game right away or will they have to all be ready to start the game at once so that there is no advantage being taken over simply reconnecting at death? I suppose I may be asking these questions at the wrong time.

Competitve, you have to wait in a lobby (or spectate!?!?!?!?!?!1) and freeplay you can just hop in and respawn any time.
