As it is, the scoring system is currently based around making things dead. Well, in some cases, deader. Either way. This is survival mode we're playing here, not kill-everything-that-moves mode. Therefore, I propose adding more things that add more points, besides just, well, killing stuff. For example...
Digging up ores (coal, iron) = 20 points
Placing ores (coal, iron) = -20 points
Digging up gold = 100 points
Placing gold = -100 points
Planting a tree and having it grow = 30 points
Destroying trees (trunk and leaves) = 0 points
Eating red mushroom = 10 points
Eating brown mushroom = -5 points
Why -5 points for eating brown mushrooms? Cause eating them isn't usually something you do for fun, it's something you do to keep on living. Also, to keep from just repeatedly eating them over and over, just to get points (also, wasting them when you don't need them at the time). Same reason eating reds gives you points. Cause it's something you DON'T normally want to do. Normally, you avoid them like the plague. This would at least give some reason for having them around. Sure, some points would be counteracted by healing, but still. It'd be a bit of a boost to your points.
Also, the negative points for placing ores and gold are to keep from artificially inflating your score by digging and placing repeatedly. Simple enough.
Obviously, once more stuff is added to survival (crafting, in particular), there should be even more things available to give points.
All in all, there should just be more ways available to gain more points, besides murdering everything you see. Not to mention, this also allows for much higher possible scores, and also, gaining points over a much longer period of time. After all, you may be able to kill all the monsters on the surface, and maybe even underground. But it'll take a bit longer to dig up all that ore and everything.
Survival is about surviving, not hoarding. Why should we be punished for placing blocks? I assume in the final game we'll have many many more mobs and it won't be a matter of finding them it'll be a matter of escaping; therefore you won't have time to just stand around mining for points.

Eh, I wouldn't really want to make the game about hoarding. As you said, that kinda defeats the purpose. But at the same time, so does simply hunting down everything that moves. And the only reason one would be "punished" for placing blocks would be to discourage the act of just placing and destroying repeatedly. Of course, once crafting is in, and those ores can be used to make stuff, crafting stuff out of the ores wouldn't remove points. If anything, that'd just give you more points, preferably.
I may not have worded it exactly right, buy my goal wasn't to suggest something to make the game about mining for points. Just to give more variety in ways of obtaining points. I'm sure there probably aren't many people who just want to sit around mining for points. But at the same time, I'm sure there's plenty of people who don't want to sit around killing mobs for points, either. After all, Survival is about surviving, not just hunting. Besides, the game is called Minecraft. There should be some sort of points associated with mining, in some way or another. :tongue.gif:
Oh, and I forgot to add to the original post: Some sort of point bonus for time survived. Though that could easily be abused by just letting the client sit there running. But it's the sort of thing that'd be nice, anyways.
No support for the system you proposed there. But loosing points for getting hit or taking damage in general. The problem is there isn't a goal, or a continuous reusable goal like trying to find lost relics in tombs full of zombies for bonus points. Etc etc.

Eh, I figured it was worth throwing out there, at least.
Though that whole lost relics and tombs thing... Why that sparks yet another idea!
