I have been working on building out my world for a while now. Thought you all might like to see it.
This is my main castle complex. I began with building the tower on the right. It was a naturally occurring rock overhang right above my spawn point, which you can see below it (the eternal fires next to the lake). Then continued to expand with towers all around and added a sweeping walkway that starts at the spawn. I used the natural landscape as my inspiration and added towers of varying heights to accent and accompany the cliffs and outcroppings of the mountaintop. The mountain itself is almost completely hollow at this point, with many different rooms and passages, but I need to do a lot of interior work before I want to show it off. Anyways, enjoy!
*pictures snip*
There are numerous secret passages throughout the place that I am currently turning into a grotto/bathing area underneath the whole cabin. Hope you enjoyed the tour! All built legitimately, though I did turn on peaceful to build my cabin. I got tired of hiding from baddies all night and spending all morning hunting creepers.
Having just now finished looking around your world, I feel I can say this about it:
Your spawn point has quite the nice view, with your mountain base to one side and that odd overhang to the other. Plus, there's the way most of the main base seems to flow out of the mountain, without (to me) becoming too much of an eyesore.
The log cabin is more of a lodge to me, and with maybe a couple more bedrooms could pull that off better than just a 'cabin'. It felt very airy and was decorated nicely.
You did say that the 'secret' passageways were incomplete so I can understand this, but I found them to be confusing as-is. I got lost in one I found in the cabin and somehow came out in the main castle. I also think the main castle/base could use... something to make it feel more lived in. It felt too empty, almost too big.
Keep at it! I'd love to see the entire thing again when it's finished.
Yeah, when I spawned at that spot I knew I had a keeper. The waterfall and lake there were totally natural. That tunnel was actually dug out way before I started the cabin/lodge. I was in my quarry and just decided to follow the contour of the rock, only digging two stone blocks and leaving all dirt alone, until I decided I wanted to know where I was and popped out. Then one night running from some creepers while laying the foundation for the lodge I fell into the small opening I had left in the mountain and remembered that I had a tunnel. And as for the castle Ive definitely been wanting to decorate the interior, but kept getting distracted by little projects. I need to do a massive smooth stone smelting project to replace all the dirt in the interiors.
Anyways thanks for all the kind words and feedback.
I've decided to create a large castle, the kind where you'd expect the peasants to want an audience. One of the first rooms is a public bathroom.
When you first enter, you see nothing but recessed lighting and a pretty flower. The sinks are to the left, toilets to the right.
The sinks have a faucet, counter space, glass to simulate mirrors and more recessed lighting.
This is the side I'm not sure I'm finished with yet. I have more recessed lighting in the ceiling - trying to get a flourescent light effect there. The cobblestone on the far wall gives you that concrete feel you get in public bathrooms. That I'm happy with.
Where I think it needs improvement are 1) the stone buttons on the wall above each toilet. There's nearly no contrast there and you can hardly even see them. And 2) the signs between the toilets to create stalls. Any ideas for how to improve that? They're really too short to do the job well.
Hope you all enjoy it and many thanks to everyone here who's helped inspire me to start creating great rooms!

"I usually have a dirt hut... but there's just something that makes you feel good about having a house the size of a small moon..." - Tawtewng
And again, the view of that storage room under the kitchen...Now why would there be a painting here, I wonder?

Is there a secret hole behind it? :3
Yup. If you look reeeaaaal close at the wall, you can see the button. Right now, my secret lair is pretty much just a 4x4 hole in the wall...But I'm planning some interesting stuff to put down there!

Enjoy written Let's Plays? My blog for them is right here:
Can you overdo it when making a castle? I think you can. This thing is going to cover an entire continent when it's done. Once I get the TNT blast radius mod up and running, this thing's going to expand into it's own dignified medieval castle city.
And now, for a cartographer picture that isn't really that amazing because there's so much left to be done; Warning, 20 MB image:
You have no idea how much I have used so far... And the castle's only about 15% of the way done, not including the sectored-out city that's gonna be inside it's walls.
You see that whole continent and all of those island that my castle is on? That whole thing is going to be covered in a massive city, encased within the walls of an equally massive castle.
Thanks! I eventually made the village underneath it.
View from my home:
Is that a cobblestone dragon i see?
Remember my giant Notch's head? I figured that it must feel lonely at nights while i'm boring through rock, so i thought it deserved some company
Behold, NOTCH GIGANTEA:
(I wish i Alpha had green blocks to make a huge creeper) I wonder if i could make a scaled up sheep...

I would suggest making a house out of stone. Make a wooden front door, and fill in the floor with planks. Make a ladder leading up to a roof with battlements.
It should look like this

The iteration of these lines brings gold;
The framing of this circle on the ground
Brings whirlwinds, tempests, thunder and lightning.

Here was my first home on a new server, it earned me some admins' respect.
Sorry if these pictures are freakishly gigantic.

Ooo! I love how the lattice hides those stairs. Sexy.
It's a lever switch tacked on the wall and put in the down position. I'm using the Painterly Texture Pack.
Feedback and further Ideas welcome!
Here's the outside
The view from the entryway:
A slightly updated kitchen (with window)
My bed up on the loft, complete with night light that can be turned on and off:
Another view of my loft, showing what is supposed to be a desk with a VERY VERY flat screen monitor...
And again, the view of that storage room under the kitchen...Now why would there be a painting here, I wonder?
