.NET Framework 3.5 is required.
Want to and help me?
Update:
09/09/2010 20:32 - Added a progress bar to the backup
10/09/2010 08:04 - Added an option to ZIP it
10/09/2010 12:40 - Progress bar for both normal backup and ZIP is now on main window, normally hidden, visible when backuping. It's larger because I had to include another DLL.
11/09/2010 12:20 - Added restoring
29/09/2010 21:04 - Version 1.5: Switching saves, deleting worlds, deleting restores, fixed a lonely thread who stayed after the program was closed!
01/10/2010 01:00 - Version 1.6: 4-5 bugfixes, Edit Settings
01/10/2010 11:08 - Version 1.6.1: 2 bugfixes, now only 400kb instead of 5MB!
02/10/2010 12:21 - Version 1.7: Added support for Minecraft Portable
02/10/2010 18:48 - Version 1.7.1: Bugfix, new icon, now only 90kb zipped (260kb unzipped), "Report bugs" button, better error handling
05/10/2010 17:08 - Version 1.8: More efficient, quicker backuping and zipping process, status bars
17/10/2010 20:19 - Version 2.0: Cartograph support, temporary backup is optional, optional description for backups, better GUI and more!
From now the release notes will be on Codeplex.
If you got any ideas how to improve/add, please state them!
Because people are too scared to download and scan the file themselves, much easier to just say it's probably a scam. :sad.gif: I shall try it out anyway :smile.gif:
Yeah not a scam. Thanks for taking the time to make this! Will be really useful! How do you restore a backup?
Thanks
You need to copy it to %appdata%\.minecraft\saves
New version: I've implemented a progress bar. Maybe I'll try in the next version to include a restore method.
Very nice clean interface. However I'm looking for something that will automatically zip the folder because I put it in my dropbox and dropbox does not take kindly to thousands of files...

I'll look for that as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
I would suggest restore merely rename the existing live folder, then copy the backup into place.
Restoring implies you don't wish to save the live world, and its fair to reason that the user would have performed a manual backup if they did anyway, so doing another automatic one would be frustrating.
For safety having the renamed folder available eliminates any possible data loss from confusion.
I have a question, can this run while the world is active? I.e. automatically backup your world periodically while you are playing? I guess that it doesnt from your descriptions, but do you think such a thing is possible or would it cause problems with the active world?
It doesn't automatically backups the world during playing. It's possible, but there is a low chance (I think at least) that it could backup right in the middle of the game's autosave, so I'm not so sure about it.
I'll try to ask Notch.
Is there a way to integrate it with a service like Dropbox, so that upon exiting Minecraft it automatically uploads the most recent backup? This could maybe be used as a way of syncing worlds between PCs automatically, as long as both PCs are running the utility..

And why would I want to scam? I already got my premium account.
Also, I said you can backup the saves WITHOUT launching the game through the program. How can it be a scam this way?

@King-Dan You have six.
This guy most likely made something, went "How can this benefit other people" and come here.
Ontopic: Tried it out, and its excellent. Thank you!
You sir have just won multiple internets. Works perfectly, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Make it so it does a checksum, so backups are not done needlessly.

"Oh nice my backup was saved before falling into lava... FFFUUUUUUU"
And so on
It doesn't override the previous backups.
