why is this game driving my laptop to 98-99deg C?? I played wow on this and never ever went that high. I have a laptop cooler that normally keeps it at 55-60deg C. as soon as i shut minecraft down temp goes back to 58C. what's up??
Its normal for a laptop to get that hot if the CPU is constantly near its max (note, this only means 1 core needs to be at its max, taskmgr would show that as 50% cpu use but that does not always mean 100% use of one core)
Almost all laptop CPUs are able to take quite a bit over 100C so while it may be uncomfortable to use it is perfectly fine for it to be that hot
You shouldn't let it run that hot!
CPU's normal operating temps are up to 70c, after 70c it can cause system instability, also temps over 80c can DAMAGE the cpu and/or seriously reduce its life!!
I set my system to warn me at 60c, increase my fans to 100% at 65c and its set to do a system shutdown at 75c.
Running it at > 80 is not good REALLY NOT..
I can only stress that laptops are designed for light use, ie browsing, email, word processing. NOT GAMES. I know the shops say they will run games fine but no.. not with their poor integrated graphics cards.
Just keep an eye on the temp and please dont let it get that high, you could be doing serious damage.
My laptop can take up to 110c+ (Rarely gets there, only when I'm playing TF2 and hosting a mc server at the same time really along with a McAfee scan)
And so since they put GAMING LAPTOP on the box my laptop came in, I should assume their lieing?
Get with the times, Laptops have come farther then desktops lately.
Minecraft is so epic all the other programs on your computer have sexual attractions towards it, and all the programs set "Is it gettin' hawt in here? :3" to true.
jk
Minecraft takes up more RAM that you think, it has to store Data for every block on the map and the maps that can span a really large distance. you need to upgrade you Computer.
Minecraft seriously abuses my current laptop as well, but such a high temp is the result of something wrong. I used to have a dual core HP pavilion dv6 that had serious overheating issues. My problems were from an AMD dual-core processor (which are known for running much hotter than Intel on average), integrated graphics card that put more tax on the CPU, and extremely poor airflow. The airflow issue was a serious design flaw with that computer, coupled with a baby sized fan that they somehow imagined would cool that thing.
If your laptop is running anywhere over 90c then i doubt its the games fault, its just the sad excuse design of the company that made it, even if parts can -withstand- temperatures that high its like running your car engine with no coolant, it is bad for it.
Also CPU's can completely fry themselves just with the heat they produce, that's why cooling is so important, and a well ventilated design.
Try dusting the inside of your comp with an air duster, that inclues fan vent and cpu chips. My 1 core computer that getes maxed with short render on minecraft (netbook :tongue.gif:) doesnt even go higher than a warm touch to my skin (like im gonna measure it.) after i dusted it. Before i dusted it i gave myself a burn after letting it idle for 15 min, i shut it off and put it in myy fridge for a little.

I will now write a witty signature in the futile attempt someone reads it, if this is the case than I have inevitably succeeded in mastering the short attention span of forum - ooh look squirrel!

Now if it were a desktop...
Then it'd be bad
