Yes. One mostly of my own devising. It started with Brown and Bloom, though with pieces from Emperorr's and Doku's mixed in, but I'm slowly replacing a lot of it with my own work. This is the second one actually-- I did a set of 16x16s, but now I'm working on a set of 32x32s. It all started with wanting to make the clay blocks reddish tan instead of bluish gray, and just sort of snowballed from there. I love the cubishness of Minecraft, so everything is designed to still complement that, but I just like modding things-- I've always done as much of that as I could in any game, though I've always obsessively done so within the constraints of the game-- and there are just some things that I felt could be better, so....
I really enjoy the painterly pack, customized of course. The white cobblestone brick blocks seem a bit more pleasing to look at visually. You can have a larger degree of stylization to your creations instead of the normal textures.
Personally, I think the original textures lacked a sort of depth that seems should come with the game's visual style.

<ProfessorGodot> Hey Kepper, wanna play Manic Digger later?
<Kepper> Manic digger?
<ProfessorGodot> that minecraft copycat
<Kepper> I'd rather choke on a ****
I use Mixcraft non-HD, except for the mobs textures. I find it has a nice match of not deviating too much from the original textures, while improving them somewhat. In my opinion the Painterly pack changes things too much, to the point I had trouble recognizing what some icons meant.
i would go to the ends of the earth to get rid of the ugly default cobblestone texture

For as long as the grass grows
For as long as the stream flows
And the sun shines down unto us
Only they who walk the clouds know
For how long the winds blow

I use Painterly, and I really like it. Maybe its cause I've only had the game a couple weeks and so haven't got any nostalgia attached to the original textures, or just my inbuilt need for good graphics even in a game thats intended to have retro graphics.
But yes, I use a texture pack, I think it just adds that extra bit of niceness to the world and really shows off the terrain well.
Nope. The default texture is like a universally-understood language. Some people refuse to speak it. I like the creativity, but I'm almost as irked as I am intrigued when I see a video or screenshot for which I have to figure out what a texture should be.
I use painterly, mostly because the default cobblestone is hideous. I also like how the painterly smooth stone looks, and the customizer let me pick a black obsidian texture, which I had wanted for a while.
Brown and Bloom for me. I like the original textures, except for cobblestone (seems to be most people's problem with the original textures). B&B changes the cobblestone to brick, but with the stone color. I also like the slightly darker smooth stone color.

I only use one that makes it so that theres a progress bar on stuff instead of it cracking when you mine and stuff. Otherwise I like the way the game is. Never found one I liked anyways
The default textures (while somewhat boring) have their unique place in Minecraft's development, but I wouldn't get too attached to them because I'll bet that they'll be changing anyway. When you consider the big plans that Notch has for Minecraft, there's no reason to think that a sizable texture overhaul isn't in the works. What? You think he hired an artist just to make a new splash screen? Helllooooo?
I used to feel that staying with the default textures was somehow the "loyal" thing to do, but after seeing screenshots and videos that other people made while using different textures, I realized that Notch is definitely no artist. All the default textures have a look to them that says "well, this is good enough until I have time to redo them or hire someone who can do better".
Anyway, I finally decided to try the painterly pack last week and it kicks ass! The colors are richer, the textures are more detailed, and the whole Minecraft world looks more interesting. No, it's not perfect, but it's MUCH better than the default.
I would use a texture pack if I could find a nice rustic or medieval styled texture pack with a max resolution of probably 32*. The higher resolutions look nice but make the world feel very flat without any bumpmapping.
The few I've seen look a little, I dunno, Bevarian?, or like LoZ:WW which doesn't appeal to me.
It takes not even a minute to replace textures...why is everyone saying they either can't do it or it's inconvenient?
Personally, I have a customized painterly texture. The only thing I do is swap out the art file, because I absolutely love the one from Mixcraft. The Scream, Starry Night, the Last Supper, etc.
Never looking back, i HATE the original cobblestone blocks, and LOVE the painterly ones.
Also, creeper bombs :biggrin.gif:.
