I've noticed that there a few features in caves that show up again and again. Enough that I feel like they must be hard coded into the algorithm, not just random. They all seem to be based on a size of 4 blocks. The main ones that I seem to see over and over are:
- The 4x4 vertical shaft. A straight vertical shaft, 4 blocks in each horizontal direction and usually 20 or some blocks high. Maybe half the time they open to the surface on top.
- The 4 block wide staircase. At each level there are two blocks in the middle, with a raised block on each end, descending one block at a time for 10-15 blocks. E.G, descending from left to right where color indicates depth in the diagram below:
- The 4 block wide slit, next to a wall. Running parallel to a wall, a line four blocks long of empty space that drops down to another level 10 or so blocks below.
What do you guys think - are these hard-coded, or just chance. Any others that you've noticed?
