I have:
2.2 Quad Core AMD Athalon CPU
6 gigs of RAM
Nvidia geforce 210.
It runs at around 30 when Im standing still, and I lag like hell when I move. Why?
Spins into an infinite loop on occasion. Notch has a temporary "fix" that stops it after so many cycles. Working on a real fix atm I believe.

I usually don't get any lag except when I move to other chunks loading or generating new blocks and when I leave Firefox or Opera open. I keep my settings on Normal View distance and Fast graphics though. So far I've not had any problems with the updates thankfully in the performance range of things. Even with all the light in hell and torch use of mine.

Science is good when it teaches you how to turn a million ungrateful foreigners into glass.
I've run into lag. I noticed it right off the bat. It's rather noticeable staggering. It's not like traditional lag, it's kinda weird.
My computer should be able to handle it. Well then again, I did more or less skimp on RAM, so maybe not as much as I'd like to think.
Using i7 btw. Only 4 gigs of RAM :l

It might be your graphics card. I can't remember specifics, but I remember someone mentioning that some sort of GeForce graphics card wasn't really supported by Minecraft. I don't think it was yours, but Idk.
Any other open apps? What does the CPU usage say when you play?

The Halloween Update? Mine's been lagging longer than that.
