This is a new trap a made trying to use the new mud found in hell (or whatever you wanna call it). This design is just a rough draft so I do plan on making a better one that looks better and just is better overall. The main problem with this one is that it doesn't trap and kill spiders at the moment.
The whole point of using hell mud is so that creepers, skeletons, and zombies cannot escape it. If you look closely atr image 3, the stones on the top left (2 spaces up and 1 to the side) prevent any thing that is your height from escaping. You need the have the area 3 blocks above empty as well.
So for now, it's pretty effective at killing mobs.
The creeper mud is good for two things. one is making all enemies low enough for any block of lava to hurt them without them falling in lava directly, and making one way paths, for all mobs the same size as the player, and you yourself.
The one way path seems to be evident, so you're trying to get creepers and skellies to have only one choice, and that's to go into the mud and into the trap.
The one way path is as diagramed (the 1/2 step will be creeper mud)

Just put the hell mud on the side that you want them to stay stuck in. you can use about anything to replace grass that is one normal block. Important to remember- do not put any blocks where the glass block is- the glass block is not to be placed.
. if you do, the one way path will break, and any mob can go through both ways
You also need to remove the glass block in that diagram other wise anything will be able to escape. The first three spaces above the mud layer that is meant to trap has to be clear.

they ruin everything!
Yea, mud has very limited use for effective traps sadly.
