I was playing on the hard difficulty and I was out exploring when I came accross a spider. It was a little after morning and all of the other baddies were burnt up. I figured he wouldn't attack since it was daytime so I cautiously walked by him; He didn't attack.
I finished mining a couple of pieces of coal and I turn around an the spider is charging me and starts raping me. I had no sword at the time so I was trying to keep him back with my hand. After nearly killing me, he suddenly stopped attacking and just sat there looking at me like, "Wtf you lookin at?". This all happened in about 30 seconds.
So basicly this happen to anyone else? Spiders friendly one minute, trying to kill you the next, and then suddenly friendly again?
I think it is caused by light, when it is on daylight, it become docile, but if it under tree, or already searching for you for the whole night, it will attack you (until it exposed to light and reset the stance).

If I remember correctly, it was near a tree. He wasn't hunting me during the night, so it must be that.
I know that skeletons and zombies can survive under trees, hinting that the sun's influence (which kills those mobs) might be blocked by trees. I was under the impression, though, that once a spider had gone for you, it wouldn't just stop because the sun came up. Maybe that's not the case.

And I want a monkey butler. Just because you want something doesn't mean you get it.

I'm pretty sure it was caused by a tree. He wasn't hunting me when it was night. Also, when he was attacking me and I was trying to keep him back with my hand, I must of pushed him out from under the tree, making him docile.
As to them becoming suddenly docile after fighting for a while, I've seen the same thing happen both before and after the patch. When fighting a spider during the day, it appears that they stop attacking when very low on health.

That is interesting as well... I had 1 heart left when he stopped attacking me.
This Is a pretty big mystery to me as to why they are are so bipolar.

That's what I was thinking. But the way it acted so bipolar leads me to believe it was some kind of bug.
Thank you, I'll be here all evening.
How did I know that was coming XD
Ok, it leads me to believe it is some kind of glitch.
