Okay, so, this is really frustrating. I've spent the better part of an hour carving out a huge underground cavern and making it look nice. There's a staircase leading up to the top level, a landing with nice lighted pillars and fences, etc. and these damned levers are making my OCD rage really hard. This is what it looks like from the outside (and where I'm having trouble)
= lever
= iron door
Okay, so that's what the doorway looks like. What my problem is, when I place the levers for the doors this happens. I hit the lever for the left side, the door opens. I hit the lever for the right side, it doesn't open. It just clicks. I hit it AGAIN and it opens, which means that the levers on either side of the door are ALWAYS FACING OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS.
I don't want to use pressure pads because mobs might accidentally trigger the doors. I've tried redoing the switches, the doors, even the entire area. Nothing works. Help me.
hmmm list of suggestions
place switch then doors, having one of the switches already switched
get to current state (with switchs messed up) and remove 1 door while its open the replacing it

Simplest answer I can think of - Proper use of redstone, so that when you flip the lever, it will activate both doors at the same time. To make it so you can open it from the other side would take a little more effort, but it is doable.
Buttons instead of levers might work for you (for operation from both directions). Like pressure plates, buttons offer temporary power...unlike switches which give persistent power when 'on'. Switches may give you problems if you approach them from the same side twice in a row (like may happen if your cavern had another possible entrance).

i would say do this place left switch open it then place right switch and see if that works
Hrm... Let me try that
place switch then doors, having one of the switches already switched
get to current state (with switchs messed up) and remove 1 door while its open the replacing it
How do you make a button
*edit*
What the christ. This door is TOYING WITH ME now.
I put a BUTTON next to it, you know what it does?
The button CLOSES the door, and keeps it open the rest of the time.
