Your logic is seriously retarded:
1. Notch promises regular updates and smp&beta soon
2. People BELIEVE him and buy the game, giving him money
3. He takes the money and starts his own company
4. He says that starting his company with OUR money takes all his time, so he can't keep his promises
This is a joke. If there's is not major update in the next 14 days, I will seriously think about getting my money back. You are aware that updating is only NOTCHS responsibility right? We don't care that he has meetings. We payed, and we want what's promised. I can understand slight delays, but it's been like 4 months now, and smp is STILL not working.
Notch's timetable is not delayed anymore, it's non-existant.
You are the kind of person the we in the retail business absolutely hate, and don't mind losing you as a customer.
Sounds like the retail business may need to raise your standards a bit. If a customer pays for a product/promise and doesn't receive it, and his complaining to you about it annoys you, then it sounds like you're bad at your job.
Stop getting my hopes up or I'll have to hit you with a severed creeper leg.

Right now, we have to hope we get one. Notch's laziness is getting a tad out of hand.

Once again, you try setting up a freaking company in two weeks and deal with server issues at the same time. Be glad you can actually play the freaking game. Actually, be glad that you had an update within the last month. Some alpha/beta stage games don't even add new content at that rate.

Yes, but updating is not Notch's only responsibility. Think of it this way,
1. Without a company Notch get's overwhelmed
2. Notch gets burned out and abandons the game
3. We all lose out on an awesome game.
You think you're being slighted but you aren't. Setbacks happen, if you can't deal with it, then that's your problem, not Notch's

You paid for an alpha.
This is like going to an NFL preseason game and then bitching that they don't play the starters.
@mavajo let me say this again, YOU PAYED FOR A GAME IN ALPHA, NOT A FINISHED ONE, YOU WERE NOT PROMISED UPDATES, YOU WERE TOLD HE PLANNED ON FINISHING THE GAME, NOT PROMISED

Sand and water?
Thats what you use to protect yourself from radiation?
- Created a company to manage the game on a larger scale
Includes: Paperwork
Tax Details
Financing Details
Location
Mission and Staff Roles
- Hired Staff
- Fixed the all-of-a-sudden too popular web server
- Managed to keep the game running through it all (mostly).
- All of this for the wonderful players who can only think of "what did I get this week that I can visibly see?"
I'm not really on either side of the whole "Notch is lazy"/"Notch is God!" discussion, but I will say this: It annoys the hell out of me when I see someone say "Just be glad you can play!" This is the most idiotic statement ever. We paid for a product. When I buy a Coke at McDonald's, I don't thank the cashier profusely for being so generous as to serve me my Coke. It's what I paid for - of course I got a Coke. We paid for a game - of course we got a game.
That's all.
and you got the UNFINISHED GAME you paid for, your excuse there is as useless as drinking that entire coke in front of the cashier and saying the cashier gave you an empty bottle

The thing is, Notch did deliver his product. There are some things that are implicitly stated by the title Alpha that some people just don't seem to get.

The point went over your head. Not surprising.
You got a deal for paying for an unfinished game. If you paid the price for a completed game, then your point would hold some weight.

This thread amuses me. It's amazing how MANY of you people have no ****ing clue how the world works.
Care to enlighten us foolish people oh wise sage ?
Well, for one, unless you have a contract with Notch entitling you to regular updates every Friday, you're not entitled to them. This is not offered anywhere in the assumed agreement, which only consists of such: you, the person who forked over the cash for the game, have the always-revokable right to (download and) play the most recent version of the Software.
I arrived on the Minecraft scene 3-4 weeks ago, and I'm starting to get a little impatient. I read a lot about the game before checking out classic and ultimately buying the game, and I was under the impression that updates were frequent. The thought of constant updates is a large part of what enticed me to buy this game, and so you can probably understand why I'm disappointed.
You got a deal for paying for an unfinished game. If you paid the price for a completed game, then your point would hold some weight.
Another guy that doesn't get the point.
The point is that no one needs to be grateful that they can "even play the game." It's what we paid for. If you couldn't play it, then there's no product - so what would we be paying for?
Sounds like the retail business may need to raise your standards a bit. If a customer pays for a product/promise and doesn't receive it, and his complaining to you about it annoys you, then it sounds like you're bad at your job.
********. Pure unadulterated ********. Back it up.

No, that's actually not the same thing at all.
Yeah, actually it is.
Nobody hid the fact from the multitude of morons who ran out and purchased this game that it was incomplete. Nobody hid the fact that there was one man building this entire game. Nobody hid the fact there is lots and lots and lots of functionality missing from the game.
You bought it.
And now you morons expect to be served a release version of the game overnight. It ain't happening. You should have waited and bought it when it was done, rather than buying it now and bitching and moaning about how production is slow or whatever.
If any of you understood the process of deploying ANY application on the scale that Minecraft has suddenly grown to, you'd have a lot more understanding for why updates are slow to emerge right now. Sadly, you don't.

Exactly. You don't even know what you're talking about.

YOU PAID FOR AN ALPHA! What you don't get is that an Alpha can become unplayable during development, but you still "have" the product you paid for. There are no quality guarantees on an alpha, unlike a retail product. This is why you should be grateful you can play. Likewise, when there's server trouble, some people can't even BUY the game to begin with. Be grateful you had the ability to buy the game.
Don't talk to me as if I'm not here, it's annoying.
EDIT: Let me be 100% clear. YOU PAID FOR AN ALPHA, PLAYABLE OR NOT. If for some reason it is unplayable at some time, tough luck, it happens.
Agreed 100%. Finally somebody makes sense. I personally couldnt give a toss about notch the man, i do however give a toss about minecraft and a product i paid for
Read what you paid for before you open your metaphorical mouth:
What you get for purchasing
Please note that Minecraft is currently a work in progress and NOT a finished product! The sandbox mode available right now. However, you may buy a discounted premium account today, which will unlock the features of all future versions up to and including the final with the full game!
As we at Mojang continue to release more complete builds of the game, we will also be reducing the discount gradually until we reach the final version and full price of the product. So the earlier you buy, the better value you get! Although we are very passionate about this project, we cannot guarantee that it will be completed - that's why we offer the discounted price When you purchase the game, you pay for it as it is right now. Future updates are an added bonus.
Those are the terms you agreed to when you bought the game.
