Tell me... what is/are your base(s) like? What's in them?
I have two parts to my base, but only one is in use right now. I have pressure plates on every door and I have 3 rooms. An art room, which is where heaps of paintings are, storage/work area, which is where most of my stuff happens, and the main room, which is the first room you enter. I also have stairs leading to the roof so I can look out around the area. I am having trouble thinking what to do with the other area. The other area is about 30x20 blocks.
My base is made of 3 parts, the farm/lumber yard, the storage, and the mine. The mine is broken into 4 segments and is on the side of a tall fat mountain intentionally. Top is coal segment then going down is iron, gold, and diamond segments. I never have to leave my base because I have everything I need inside of my base. Its on hard and no monsters can even spawn in my base. Every now and then a random slime appears. Its all inside the mountain. Its a waist of cobble to just use it to make an outside base, so I dug into the mountain to keep the cover. There is a door at the entrance with a glass outline around it to see outside. Everything is tight, but, efficient. I get what I want then I will leave it to make a full blown obsidian master piece.
My home goes 3 stories (1 developed and 2 new), plus an airstrip/beacon on top. There are labeled cave entrances scattered around, with the biggest (and most complex/beautiful/rewarding/dangerous) being just out in front, around the pond. The wheat garden has a skylight, found in front of the small tower on the right, in the first picture.
There is a second home, the Tree house, which are two naturally large, connected trees with paths cut into them, and living space on top. Next to it is a walled pool (now obsolete) for quick escapes and a dock for the eventual trip out to sea. Just off to the side of the tree house is a lighthouse with an undersea connection to an explosion-pending cave system, which connects to the main hallway.
Expansion is done by digging down a while, and then picking a direction and digging straight for 5-15 minutes, depending on if I'm on MSN or not. Because of this there are signs at each junction and checkpoint posts on the surface. I play on short and tiny fog distances, so before the compass it was very easy to get lost.
It all began with a simple house, made of wood, on my spawn point. Eventually, I added a shaft building. (what I called a 5x5 mine shaft covered with dirt) Once I hit adminium with that, I created another, then another. I turned my old house from wood to cobblestone, and added a porch of the same.
Then I cave the porch a roof. And walls. Then I knocked out the wall between the rooms, and put up double doors. Then I added a second floor, for more storage. After my fifth mine shaft to adminium, I had two storage rooms and a farm on the top floor. Then I added a basement for even more storage.
Then, for kicks, I built a stone wall around it, because when you have THAT MANY stacks of rock, you have to do something with them.
I read something about Halo Reach recently where the Covenant glassed the planet (melted the surface into glass) and thought, hey, what would it be like to be the sole survivor of a glassed planet? I used NBT Forge to turn the surface to glass and INVedit to allow myself 1 torch and 1 sapling, then placed my spawn down in a natural cave under the glass where I presumably hid from the attack. Maintaining the base is a bit harder than usual as there's no natural source of wood or food, but the mild challenge makes it funner. Started a small tree farm then found some grass growing under glass that I tilled and found seeds. One bonus is I don't have to deal with everywhere, or at least they haven't begun spawning out here yet.

That is really cool, but you will sadly never have or cows(noicon??) they only spawn on grass
Mine is a small shack made out of diamond(hax)it is 4x4x3,but with a staircase that goes down underground into a HUGE mine, with every ore in the game,i was soooooooooo happy to find diamond, but i couldnt reach the iron all the way at the top of the mine..... :-( also, i made a "Fountain of youth" in the mine, and a castle..... :-)
Basically i started off on flatting off a small flat land for a tiny 4*4 hut on my first night. Then it grew, i expanded, added a small tower. Then i built a watchtower which was only short and tiny to check my surrounding at night/early morning. Then i made a green house, followed by an eventually chest room. Next was a large watch tower with a glass top. Then a larger chest room which i never finished. My underground mine was massive, with like over 100 diffrent paths in it (auto made) so i always get lost, but i have a few exits. SO i made a small hut in one exit, and made two minecard stations, one at each base and joined them. Hope you enjoy.
Also, not on that video, i removed the small watch tower and added a upstairs extension to my house (video comming soon)
I hollowed out a mountain and made my home inside it. A few 5x5 mine shafts are scattered around, and a 9x9 mine shaft is a little further away. I was going to make a huge building, but screwed up on part of it. Didn't feel like tearing the whole thing down so in my frustration I made all the TNT I could and blew it up. Now my base looks terrible and I'm either going to start a new world or find a new place to build, far away from that place.
I spent roughly an hour building that big-ass wall, let's see those ****ing skeletons get through THAT
Here's inside my courtyard, down those stairs are my tree and wheat farms (I love my lava lights)
Here's my tree farm, with dirt stairs that lead up the top of my wall if I feel like sniping cows, I usually get a haul of 64 logs each time my trees sprout
Here's my wheat farm, originally it was much bigger but ehhhhh... it was a pain in the ass to grow and tend to all of that, not to mention a lot of the tilled squared went back to normal.
Here's my workshop, complete with shitty chimney!
and this is what it looks like inside, got a few chests to store all the ****ing coal I've been finding along with some other precious metals and diamonds, only one furnace though, I should fix that...
Here's my new house, I actually modeled it after my tiny studio apartment I live in right now.
This is what greets me when I step inside.
Here's my livingroom/bedroom place, forgot to put a couch in there, I'll do that later when I'm not busy skull****ing skeletons with my sword.

Like a flowing lava room.
A nice little indoor garden.
And a bedrock mine.
5 year olds play this, profanity need to be kept low.
You *******.
What happened, was the fish too strong and pulled you in the water?
*Trying-to-be-not-offencive-troll laugh*

And then I just mine outwards and either upwards or downwards from there

Trying is a good way to describe it, since there's no fish.
