The link to download the Alpha client is http://minecraft.net/download.jsp OR http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp.
It's not a big secret, guys. Notch even tweeted it. Several times. What he doesn't want is people uploading the client to some sharing site and giving it away, as that would be pirating.
You have to be logged in (and have paid for it) in order to download the client. I'm having no issue connecting to the online server while on the client (it even updated), but that might just be me, I don't know.
EDIT: It's even accessible from the main page. Alpha -> Download. Not that hard...
Snap!

Spoilers: this topic was made when Minecraft.net was down, thus that page wouldn't be accessible.
...Lord, it even says so in the OP.
Well, since I never saw the website itself being down, I was thinking that he meant that the game was down. Now if the website had been down, than the only legal solution would have been to wait for it to come back up. Which it is, now.

No need to get defensive, bro. You were just acting snobbish, like the answer was so obvious, while you were actually wrong in your solution to the OP's problem.

Which isn't cool.
...What, exactly, did he win?
