Do you guys all lag endlessly or just when exploring a new area or right on start up?
I lag most of the time when im moving into new areas but when i stay in one general location its fine. Turn down fog levels. Dont explore alot. Try not to explore when the lighting shifts. Dont run other programs in the background. Stop downloading porn. All good solutions.
I don't know what Notch did to make it lag so much.
I step a foot, lag attack.
I remove a block, lag attack
I place a sapling/torch down, lag attack
I post on minecraft forums, lag attack
Personally, I think Notch's main priority right now should be to kill the lag. A lot of this I believe is still a result of Minecraft running off of RAM rather than hard drive space.
It doesn't lag at all for me anymore. Ever. The only time it does is when I'm running 50 programs at once, but I rarely do that. The main lag was caused by some light glitch, which he fixed. If you're getting lag, it's just you, because it works perfectly fine for me :wink.gif:
Hate to say it but i haven't gotten any lag at all. Only slowdown was trying to put together a Floating Deep Large Paradise level on load-up. Still ran smoothly after it generated.
Could be computer strength, but I'm not sure whats going on at your end. Might need some optimizing in the code.
Havent put saplings but torches work fine for me. Placing, Throwing. Spamming. ect. I might not be doing something you guys are doing to trigger it.
were talking about INFDEV. not indev. theres a HUGE difference.

Give me an internet, or Chuck Norris will kill you!!!
Yea. Your right. Major difference. My bad :tongue.gif:
just got back from Infdev. I got minor-insignificant lag with no fog, but once i put a layer of fog up it almost gone. anymore layers and its flawless.
Didn't get to test torches or Saplings. Map generation loves throwing me into the water XD. Ill test that later when i get back from work.
I'm not getting much of the lag that you guys are talking about. Running it on a mid-range vista pc with 2 gigs of ram.
I wonder how map settings are going to work in the future though. I hope he'll have it so you can set it if you want it to generate more trees, more water, etc. Then again I guess even if he doesn't, someone will come up with a custom client that will :smile.gif:
Crashatastic and lagalicious? Who came up with these words!?

PvP is like sex. When both parties are willing, it can be a very enjoyable experience. However, when one party is not, it is bound to ruin someone's day.

If Minecraft tried to use your hard drive for the things it uses your RAM for, your game wouldn't even load. RAM exists for a reason.
So does this update just replace the trees, or do they grow now as well?
I've planted a sapling and it's been about 2 1/2 game days with nothing. I've put off seriously playing with infdev because of the tree thing. I would love to play it if only they grew.

HUGE difference is an understatement :tongue.gif:
I hope he adds the others back, like some areas have big trees, and some have small.
Make like a gardener and prune 'em.
