I agree that the branches look a little odd, since they have tree rings on the top and undersides visible, instead of bark. Also, while I do like having the tall trees, it does make it kinda inconvenient to chop down a tree since I have to pile dirt underneath it if I want to reach the highest blocks of wood.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

In my professional opinion, the only way trees will look better then they originally did is if notch makes actual tree models or branch blocks or makes tree trunks less then one full cube around. Its very hard to have a good looking cube-based tree, it requires a lot of imagination.
That being said, the trees almost need to look the way they originally did or else the game loses its feel. I personally dont mind the new trees, but as the game crashes more often then i care to recall, i cant really enjoy them or hate them.
I must admit it was a sloppy update but i think hes been feeling rushed since it was like 4-5 days since he last updated so i can understand... branches i think are o.k. they just need a better texture to fit better with the surrounding blocks. Maybe quarter wood blocks??? it would allow for a better looking branching effect while keeping the style. Also the darkness under the trees is great! it gives better areas for monsters to spawn at daylight and changes the mood of the world very quickly while exploring. Now you may have to avoid deep woods so that you don't get attacked by monsters. Huge trees also make great places to build which i think expands our ability to be creative. I love the way there are still smaller trees but some are huge and have tons of branches. I would like to see log to wood conversions to be lowered to make up for it, and instead of tons of saplings make them rare, but maybe some day in the future trees will wilt and die and leave like 3 seeds behind that auto plant and grow trees. Sand isn't placed very well yet i don't thing, but at least its there for now, and i haven't seen any gravel yet. Torches are defiantly screwed up but he seems to be quick about fixing little bugs like that... i would really just like to see the monsters working again as the next major fix other than that the new update is pretty cool.

I think if the trees are any bigger it will be too easy to gather wood. Perhaps decrease the crafting conversions from wood > planks > sticks ?
I prefer bigger trees, much more entertaining to lumber-jack your way through a forest.
For the torches
I recommend you make a stove and throw some coal in for the night...Better hope you time your mining ops good! :biggrin.gif:

Jeez.
Yeah, I just tried to place one, and BOOM HEADSHOT. My browser died on me. :sad.gif:
any way lagtastic tons of crashing
That is unbeleivably awesome. It also helps with the debugging process, as Notch now knows that the crash has nothing to do with the lighting.
