Why hello there, it's me for the second time. With another creation. Underground. Only difference this time folks is that it's an entire, self sustaining, prosperous city. It was an original idea of mine that snowballed into what it is now. Project Rock Bottom was, originally, going to be a city at the base of a strip mine. After that I thought of a city carved into the walls. Now it has evolved into a large strip mine, down to the bedrock, maybe five layers beneath the surface, with "Platforms" every 11 blocks. Each platform is accessed by an elevator and has a separate purpose. A private "Luxury Suites" platform is located at the bottom, and is designed for the keeping of those of higher priority in case of security breach. Below are images with documentation of what the depict.
Here is the entrance. As a tertiary function of Project Rock Bottom, or Colony 17, it is prepared to withstand any form of bombardment from the outside.
Except for creepers with diamond tools. If that day ever comes... Notch help us all.
Upon entrance, there is a small work area prepared for venture outwards or arrival in. The staircase leads below to the entrance area.
From here you see the entrance area, complete with a small view of our storage areas. Beyond are 6 chests full of cobble and dirt gathered from the mines.
The last image to be shown outside of Project Rock Bottom. Through this door, the true fun begins.
I lied. Another boring building. This here was built and added by another friend of mine, one of the three main workers on the project, AlysiaKael.
And here is his mine tracks. These lead from the storage down a few platforms in his home up to this building for trade.
Below for the next few images will be the view going down the elevator, encompassing the upper four Platforms. Platform 5 is restricted.
The last image, being a newer area, is of the lake on Platform 4 - Residential and has not been encased. Allows for access to a good fishing point. Going up there is an image of the smaller farm on Platform 3 - Farming and the first image is of the artificial sun that is the large part of Platform 2 - Public Housing.
This is an image of a larger farm on Platform 3 that is hidden in the back area to discourage stealing. It was a vein attempt to put use to our surplus of seeds.
Here is an image of Platform 2's secondary function, a small water reservoir. As it had a tertiary function as a Nuclear Fallout Shelter it required clean water and a constant supply, this was created to meet that need. It also helped a great deal in the construction of Platform 4's lake, which was constructed largely by the third builder, Tyash.
The final picture I have to show you shows as little as possible of Platform 5 - Luxury Suites yet still shows the large feature of not only it but also the entire project. That's right. The Pig statue is the most important piece. But that's for another topic for another time. The other factor is the three pictured are those responsible for the construction of Project Rock Bottom, each with their own specific abilities and resources brought to the table. From left to right;
AlysiaKael - Discovered and colonized the area in the beginning. Responsible for the building on Platform 1, the minecart route, the idea and large construction of the artificial Sun on Platform 2, the glass floors, the elevator system, automating every door in the complex, obsidian-coating of the entrance.
CaligaNNoctus (Me!) - Technically, the entire idea. The project was begun and proposed by me. It'd be easier listing off what I didn't do for the project, which is told in Alysia's and Tyash's contributions.
Tyash - Construction of the like and protection of the vault. His understanding of water physics and redstone far exceeded Alysia's and mine. Tyash was also responsible for obsidian mining and the gathering of the valuable minerals for our city. He didn't help until near the end.
I hope you enjoyed my newest project, completed today around 12:00 Central time. It is one of the final projects to reach completion before the end of the Alpha Era.

(Added note: The image clipping shouldn't obstruct most of the view; the project was relatively symmetrical)
The project was completely symmetrical, mind you. Also, your version of Painterly's makes it look even more epic than mine :C
In other news: Platform 1's building (minecart tracks down to P3 were pictured) is going to be a railway station, complete with the new superbooster for travel across the server. Freight to start, eventually passengers and freight.
I did have fun doing this :3
EDIT 3, EDIT-EATING IS GETTING RIDICULOUS:
The mismatched stone and wood at the entryway staircase was fixed recently, it's now mostly stone.

I was welcomed by 4 ghasts. Nice reception party, they even had hors d'oeuvres ready. It was a fun time for all, until Bob sneezed.
Aaaaaaaaand.... Rock Bottom has been griefed. Lovely.
Ty and I are working on repairs, at which point we will return to expansion and more picture posts. :biggrin.gif:
