So I own a small private smp server and I got lots of great mods like minecart mania, craftbook, cuboidplugin, iconomy, and signcommands. Especially after I got craftbook, my head was teeming with ideas on what to build. And every thing I wanted was a few /cfills and /gives away. Now I have a castle with completed outer walls, a courtyard and an inner building that is my house. The castle has a craftbook gate and my house has a trapdoor at the front entrance and a secret way around. I set up switch activated pumpkin lights in my house as well. Then I realized I had just hacked in soooo much rock redstone, and wood. Now I want to switch back to playing legitly to finish and expand my castle, but it is really hard. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break my had addiction?
Destroy it completely. If you dont you will look at it every time and go, "its so easy if I just had this!" But if its not there, you will get caught up with how much pride you have for your built objects legit.
If your admin group has an asterik (*) for the command section, then remove it. Place all of the relevant commands an admin should have in its place, but leave out /i, /give, and /item.
I did destroy my castle ( with hax ) and have moved on to a legitimate project. An underground secret castle. Although I don't think I am going to go so far as to take the /give and cuboidplugin commands away from myself because sometimes weird things happen with the server and people lose legit stuff. Since the server is small and private ( for now at least ) I am not going to need to release logs. Before letting the server go public I need to get the server and plugins all working nicely and learn to be a better admin.
You need to stay clean from the start to have pride in your 'clean' server.
This means having griefalert logs that log items used vs items mined.
This lets you publish logs with statistics that prove your server's legitimacy to players.
this could help you break your habit.
