Im trying to build a sensor on a SMP server that I play on, and I'm trying to have some circuit so that when a pressure plate is stood on by a person, a redstone torch flashes on and off, or stays on to show when someone has walked over the plate. There will obviously be some circuitry between the plate and the torch, but I need help designing how it would work. It also needs to be reasonably compact and fit in around a 6x6 square area.

The only way i could think to do that off the top of my head is to build a pulse leading to a 3 way AND, have 1 on the inputs be a hidden switch always toggled on underground, the 2nd one being the pulse and the 3rd input being the toggle. Then when a player is standing on the button the light will flicker.
I'm not sure how experienced you are, but a good start if you're a complete beginner is by watching Bob's minecart tutorials. He covers the basics of redstone very well. From there, I'd check out the wiki page on Redstone Circuits. It has a wealth of information on all things redstone and lists dozens of example circuits.
Good luck!

I have built one of these. It will require a whole floor of a small house dedicated to it though. Download the world save here. Unzip it to your saves folder (C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves\) and make sure you don't already have a World4 that you want to keep. if you want to keep World 4 then copy and paste it somewhere.

Been noticing this phenomenon more where people who hold standards that above average are silenced while those with standards lower than average are viewed as pleasant and preferable. No wonder mass media is in such ****.
You know what, I think what you need is a RS Nor latch. So when you step on the pressure plate, the light will stay on until you press the button hooked up to the reset, very easy and can fit into very small places. (First post!)

Damn, I should have thought of that. Nice first post, it provides a much better solution for the original poster's problem than my suggestion.
(I approve.)

I believe they're called "redstone torches."
ON = bright red
OFF = dark red
xD ^^^^^what he said.
Alternatively, you could be all fancy and build one of these: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/File:T_flip-flop.gif
That way you could attach a button and not have to worry about removing the torch. :smile.gif:
