This Thread will be focused on discussing and planning a new SMP server, focused on rebuilding and creating the world of Tamriel, more specifically on Cyrodiil. The map, as you can see above, is currently showing a number of cities, which I propose we faithfully remake into the Minecraft Universe. The workload will be absolutely insane, and it will require a lot of logistics and planning before we ever start laying the first block. Those serious about the implementation of this onto a server are free to talk about it here. As of right now, this is in
PRE ALPHA
This means that we have no server, and are simply in the planning phase. :]
I'll work on getting a team list together once we can get definites on who wants to help/who's serious about it.
Im definatly interested in this! :smile.gif: I like the aspect of having alot of work to do lay ahead... No i am not crazy. I've ben looking for a big project and this seem's perfect. Count me in. How would we communicate and all of that?
Kind of on-topic: Tamriel Rebuilt Project
Let's get these people hooked on minecraft. I'm surprised to see that the project still is somewhat seemingly alive...
This is a great idea. I would love to join once I get a faster and bigger data usage internet connection after I move house. But I don't have much minecraft experience so idk if I could help....
Sounds like a fantastic idea. It would probably be a good idea to start with the Imperial City, and map out the distances to the various other cities, then build up the large locations, then the roads and smaller locations, then dungeons, and finally terrain. Obviously it would be awkward to get the various places to be at the right terrain height, any suggestions regarding that issue?
Sounds like there are a decent number of people interested - alllright. If those who are interested would kindly PM me the best method of contact - I'm thinking that if we're going to seriously discuss this it might be best on AIM or Skype. First priority is AIM, since that's a bit more accessible to some people. So yeah! PM me your AIM, and I'll stick your name up on the (hopefully) growing team list here on the forum.
It looks like every "tile" that you can see on the map is a 2x2 square. After firing up the game, it seems to be just about right. I would use those measurements myself, but that's really up to you. I have done a little recreation of stuff from other games like Zelda for fun, and it's turned out ok. I would say that you should try to keep from using a texture pack to recreate the city to give yourself a challenge.
The problem would be having multiple ones as the size of an oblivion area is greater than one sixteenth the distance between gates. Maybe have the oblivion areas at different altitudes so they don't interfere?
Still trying to find the damn diameter of the IC lol. Can't start work til I find it.
It would appear asthough the tile size is 256cm and the main IC entrance path (by the Chestnut Handy Stables) is two tiles wide. Making the diamater of the main section of the IC 80 tiles or 205m!
Since I am so shoddy and have never done anything remotely close to managing and administrating a multiplayer server, I'd like to ask if someone else is available to coordinate such a venture. I will be happy to lead the team otherwise, as it seems we have quite a bit of work. Someone with experience can maybe help with the map design? I think that if we just had a map completely flat, we would be just fine - It would take forever to flatten out the land in a random map. :[
Yup. If you want to find the size of anything, use this map http://www.uesp.net/maps/obmap/obmap.shtml
to find how many grass/path/mud/whatever tiles it takes up, then times by 2.56 and you have the distance in blocks.

Yeah It took me hours to clear a space for my chernobyl npp. Flat makes most sense.
And that way we don't need to worry about altitude atall until building outside the IC, just find the height difference and build another location in correct place, whether it's flying or underground or whatever, and worry about the terrain later.
Aha, altitute is mostly solved by that map too, landmarks have 3d coordinates :biggrin.gif:
It's those distance measurements that may seem annoying but if you ignore them until later it will make the join-up look awful, so yeah that would need to be well coordinated.

Timelapsed Let's Play
But I wish you guys luck! :wink.gif:
If someone can find me a scale reference for the IC then I will start test building right http://www.oblivionwalkthrough.com/w/m/ ... l_city.png
That may help.
Oh forgot to say I played oblivion HEAPS though.
Woot, I just hit the motherload http://www.uesp.net/maps/obmap/obmap.shtml

Template for Imperial City.
1pxl = 1block
I don't even know if thats possible though.
