About a month ago I set up a server, everything was great! People could log into my server, and I could log into it. Then BAM! It just suddenly stopped working!?
I can log into the server fine from my computer, the one thats hosting the server. But nobody else can, all they get is: connection timed out: connect. Thats it. My server box doesn't even say anything about them trying to log in, or anything at all.
I looked at my firewall, its turned off. I tried re-downloading the server, didn't work. I tried turning my port forwarding on then off, that didn't work. Then I tried this site that shows if your port is open or closed: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
I used this site when I started my server, it was an open port then. But not it says the port is closed??
I'm so confused! Someone please, please, please help me!!
Do you have a different computer you can fire up a server on, try forwarding the port to it, and seeing if people can connect? Computer troubleshooting 101 is to eliminate suspected points of failure...what we want to do here is narrow down if it's the system running the server, or your router/network/ISP.
EDIT: Another quick thought...in your home network, unless you know you specified your IP as static, the router may assign it a new one at any time, messing up your port forwards. The easiest way to give it a static IP is to setup what's called a 'DHCP Reservation" on your router and give it a permanent IP.
