Karma for what? If your going to flame then actually speak up?
If this is about my server asking for contribution to play Notch supports this even has it on his own site. If this is about something else then I'm not sure what your going on about.
All I can tell you is the person doing this is not hurting just me but 100's of players.

If only it were that easy. For a personal computer that would work, but this is a dedicated server in question, im sure he could get another IP easily however, this IP is public, it would take only minutes for the attacker to realize this and change.
Attempy to change ports - block that port
Enable ping of death protection and ICMP protection on your router . Ummmm enable any other DOS attack preventions your router may be equiped with if u have a local setup. Worst case SHUT down your server and your switch of your router and CALL your ISP
IF YOU DONT HAVE A LOCAL SETUP Read BELOW
There really is NOTHING you alone can do unless ur a specalized network analyst or you have accsess to every bit of equipment that goes into hosting your server.
The equipment in question ( Rotuer,Computer's, all the stuff one uses to make all the magic happen) This will all be on your hostings end so U better call them and stop talking about it here. As there is nothing anyone can provide here that will stop this attack. If ur concered u best SHUT your server down and then call.
Your Hosting service and there ISP will shut it down anyway if u don't while they investigate, The best thing u can do on your own is to inform others and close up shop and let the people who are trained to trace hack attempts deal with it. Alternativly while u do this u may wish to grab a copy of Wireshark of the web and start traceing and sniffing until u find were the paw prints stop responding to your trace. there you will find proxy that he is using to hide him self with.
If your really really KEEN get on download a copy of the UNIX varient Backtrack and use it to find out anything else after all backtrack is a hackers toolkit OS so why not give it a shot.
yea i know i got carried away just do what I posted up until the Wireshark bit!
Might want to take this up at Facepunch because people there have been ddossed alot and survived the attacks. Be aware that some people there are trolls.
I'd go through all your recently banned people and see if any of them would have a reason to flame. Things like them having a huge buildings or them thinking that a rule is unfair or thinking they were banned wrongly. You could try having the ISP block those IP addresses and see what happens.

As has been stated time after time, the source IP address is being spoofed, it isn't the attacker's normal IP. Please read the thread before attempting to contribute.
Dunno why there's "why would they do this" posts, about a pay-to-play server. As for "notch even does it", its kinda different, he's actually making the game? The one you're using? Or maybe I misunderstood you :tongue.gif:
However, as I understand it, you've got certain costs associated with running yours, as you're setting it up with more efficient equipment etc. I would guess that now thats probably pushed into profit, but now the money will just help keep the server up despite the DDoS attacks.
So, I can understand why you'd ask for money since you have an expensive setup I assume, but don't compare this to notch asking people to pay to buy the game (if I understood you correct?), and don't act confused when someone gets annoyed at it :tongue.gif:
I just traced the IP (hehe) and it says that Qwest Communications is their ISP, call them give them the IP, and also the trace says that the organization is Activision Publishing.
I honestly think that an organization like that won't do that on purpose, I think that one of their office computers caught a DDoS virus. But then their filter had to have seen that... Hmm.
TTLs have no significance of whether or not its a DDoS or DoS. A TTL is just part of the IP header that routers use to decide if the packets has been in transit too long. You must be thinking of the HOP count because that would decide the likely hood of them all originating from the same place. In the new yet unrefined IPv6 TTLs are being renames to "Hop Limit". See the distinction?
You might want to go review your CompTia books again.
I'm not in a mood to deal with nonsense like this today, so I'll simply rebut with a suggestion you get some real world experience, and maybe eat more fish. Your worship of CompTIA is not helping you and a working brain would have let you sort out that a random assortment of hosts across the internet tend to have (drumroll please) differing length routes to travel to reach their destination.
Additionally, now that I know this is a P2P server, he can go hire someone. I'm getting out of this festival of idiocy.
If your panicing about chargebacks and such, you shouldn't.
You were out there to provide a service, and since they paid for it, they expect something back. That isn't happening however, and they want their money back, and they should get it back.
If it where simple to set up a pay2play server, everyone would be doing it.
Maybe you should just open a public server and allow people to play for free on it. Or make some sort of invite-only system. Even if you made payments optional.
It being a pay2play server has the indirect effect of making it the best god damn server around. If it were public, it'd be like any other server. There's a reason that everybody who's been on Godcraft never really gets the same amount of enjoyment out of playing on any other servers afterwards.
Besides, I don't see how this is relevant to the topic.
Yeah guys this about ddos not paid server. This is being offtopic you really should consider leaving this thread if you don't want to get on topic. See my server is one the best and I guess because this people have to ddos it. Also people always argue about the contribute one time access fee being such a issue. Why? Unless you know I'm the best server and you want to play it...
Anyways Were working on it and having a network specialist to offer me and the datacenter some recommendations. We think we know who it is already. It's a community who runs other games as well and makes money doing this stuff and I guess finds it fun to ddos out community..
BTW people who have any issues with the payment thing please feel free to post on my forums and my own members will tell you there experience. Don't let me tell you let the community tell you.

post is also about facts about DDoS's, not personal opinions on what constitutes a "best" server, speculation on why its being DDoS'd, or the vanity of thinking its a DDoS because of its "bestness".
there is no proof that its being DDoSd either because someone picked a random IP to test an attack on, or that its because of so called "jealousy", or a pissed secret member of the server, or ex member of the server wanting revenge..
its amazing how those that members of godcraft replying going "guys its not about it being a payed server, its about the attack" as an argument, in turn tosses into that same reply "But it is the best payed server hands down".
you cannot simultaneously say "stop discussing the quality or pay rate of the server, its a purely DDoS thread" and talk about the quality of the server and its pay reasons.

yes thats the perfect place to get an unbiased opinion of a server...the servers forum thats populated by the servers members.
its no more unbiased than going onto an MMO forum and asking "is this a good MMO" ofcourse everyone on the forums will say yes, because they play on the MMO.
I'm not saying its a good server, or a bad server...just saying opinions on that forum might be a bit skewed to get a realistic judgement

I agree completely.
My best guess is the DDoS is either:
a. Someone you banned and didn't get their money back
b. Someone that doesn't like pay to play servers
I honestly don't think the 'they're DDOSING US because we're the best!' explanation is likely.
Modedit: That it is. Warned.

On a side note Chuck could fix this.
Intelekt's hilarious review from community. Worst mod ever?
Intelekt being a jackass after getting kicked out. At end of topic

I feel sorry for you
i am not sure if this is the kind of thing that you are looking for but i thought i would just put it out here as a option
That company is really bad. I emailed them and they told me they only do it for port 80 for httpd protection.
