The [CC] server will be switching over to SMP, and when that comes, I'm going wild with how our RP will be done.
Hoping to be doing what we do with our RP servers in other games, which would be allow for players to register alliances, form factions and whatnot. I'm planning myself to start doing commodity trading from town to town when we have multiple towns set up, and maybe I'll set up a rule that designates a certain item as currency. Would need to decide which item is the least used though...
Anyways, also plan to start pirating other traders if commodity trading catches on and they start doing it over bodies of water. Will also be making sure PvP is realistic, so probably only allow it outside towns in the wilderness, only to make exceptions for very organized, in-character raids on towns as long as it's faction/alliance vs faction/alliance.
Not to mention I'll probably enforce chat filters on the server. In other words, regular chat for IC talk and [[ for OOC.
Don't start an argument about currency here. It will destroy this topic.
No no, I could care less about currency, and personally I think that Roleplays are often best when money is left out of them. Just saying that if I really want to encourage commodity trading on the server, setting a rule specifically for the server that a specific object can be used as common currency if they want is a possibility.

Ya'll are missing the idea of a roleplaying server.
It's not to set up grand systems that will fail and collapse, it's just acting out your character and enjoying it.

Would you dare to meet the gaze of the basilisk, or face the flames as the phoenix burns?
I guess some of us are indeed NOT Dwarf Fortress players. Some of us actually enjoy it when setting up grand systems that fail an collapse are fun! :biggrin.gif:

yeah, i can't even figure out how to actually start playing the game in DF. As for roleplay, i've always found it's more fun to act out combat and such than role a dice and use stats and all that.

No, we're just interpreting it differently than you. You can do that on your servers, and we can do this on ours. Not a big deal.

One of the things I'm most happy about with all of the updates is it almost feels like what DF multiplayer would be like.

(i'm a french man too then excuse my bad english, and if I do some faults, thanks to correct me)
I am dubious about the peoples who playing seriously or not, people who griefing or not, because when I look this forum I see a lot of people who were affraid to playing whith griefers. I think it will not be so difficult to create RP servers, you just must to create communities of RP players...And this players could be recruted on this forum ( or somewhere), on topic who were consecrated to recruitment...
of course, it implies "closed-server" but it's a solution if you want servers who were absolutely RP...
Yeah, as far as I can tell there'll be enough serious RPers. And definitely closed server. Admissions could be open to anyone who asks, but the server itself has to be closed.
Actually guys I intend to have a huge roleplaying server on the go, massive even. and I mean full out roleplaying, not just lightRP or something similar

Awesome, what kind of RP are you planning? Just a "people group up and build cities" kind of thing or what?

Idea win enough? :biggrin.gif:
Anyways, I think that forming cities will be inevitable on the more populated servers. I sometimes dream of minecraft railroads (Not really).

Nobody said anything about dice or stats.

Yes, this is how I would RP.
I look forward to playing with you :DDD
