Clientside inventory means anyone can use something like cheat engine to get infinite TNT. Meaning public servers will just be massive grief-fests. At least once the griefer kiddies figure that out.
Only as long as it takes the people running the servers to ban all of them. Then it will be nice and quiet again.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Only until proper server-side inventories come out though. which I expect to be in september. better brace yourselves for the griefers.

I guess you have a point, now that people can't just go make a new account or change their IP to get around bans. Hopefully minecraft gets something like /demo (records like a video, but filesize is tiny since it's in-engine) so there's an easy way to post evidence of griefing. That way we could maintain a central ban list that most servers would use.
A single centralized blacklist is generally a bad idea as it can be used for a whole other sort of griefing unless the maintainers are really strict in their requirements for putting names on the list. (And even then the only real people who should ever be placed on such a list are those who hack the game.)
Not to mention that there are probably as many different interpretations of what makes a bannable offense as there are folks who would run servers.

Yes, good points. Right now I'm mostly thinking about people editing infinite TNT into their inventories and blowing the entire server to bits. Probably playing on public server won't be a good idea until inventory is serverside. Or at least we have some way of disabling TNT/flint and steel.
Yea, I'm hoping to be able to selectively disable crafting plans for ranks when we do get the final servers. Flint and steel is just so dang destructive it's not even funny. (TNT is hard enough to make that I'm not as concerned about it.)

I haven't used flint and steel for months, since it's not used for anything. But with the latest update, a lava bucket does the same thing as flint and steel. So I guess that couldn't really be removed.
As for TNT, it has no real practical uses other than very rarely for excavating. But it takes weeks to get enough powder to be useful, so legitimate players wouldn't miss it.

Flint and steel is much faster than lava, unless you unleash several buckets of lava across a spread of a large wooden structure. Flint and steel is still faster for starting fires.
Also, have a little faith in your fellow Minecrafters, guys.
Welcome to the forums, Alikchi! But, well. The internet. Faith in humanity is quickly dispelled.

Lava starts fires. Maybe it takes a few seconds longer to start the fires, but does it matter? If griefers can't use flint and steel, they will use lava. Simple as that.

finding 1 iron and 1 flint is easier than finding 3 iron and lava. I doubt they'll have any trouble getting flint & steel.

In real life, fish are cursed with the fact that it will never rain for them. In minecraft, they can now live out their fantasies. Notch has a heart for his fish brethren.
