I hate that most people think like this:"Hurr, this is survival, i need to SURVIVE, i'll steal, kill and destroy" :sad.gif:
Why cannot people be nice?
I will NEVER attack anyone unless they run to me with a sword/attack me first,
I will NEVER take anything from a chest i don't own,
i will NEVER go into a base/home/castle unless the owner is inside and gives me permission and
i will NEVER set forest fires.

you sir are a good man, and i intend to follow your guide line
EVERYTHING EXCEPT SPAWNKILLING OR HACKS IS FAIR GAME
If that was the accepted idea, people would follow you out of sight of the spawn and just pour lava on you from a bucket. But it's not usually the accepted idea, because it's so flawed.

Hey, notice i said fair game. If you let someone you follow you out of spawn, then its your fault. Anyway, i want a spawn zone, a radius of 5 around spawn where there is no PvP or mobs. Once you go out you cannot come back in. Also, you will not be able to build within 10 blocks of it, and if you stay in too long you die. Anything along those lines would be good. Also, op only spawnsetters that would respawn you to one randomly.
I think it's important that a server has its own goals. Some will be as you accurately describe. That there will be no pvp, and logically you probably wont even be able to kill anybody because of that. You just build together. No one will be trying to become an assassin when there is no one to assassinate.
Agreed. The problem is though that a vast majority of server's with "goals" are probably going to consider theft/unsolicited pvp as a bootable offense. Consequently, this is going to funnel all the people that just wanted to pvp into the public servers where this is allowed. These servers are going to devolve into a constant FFA where people aren't going to be leaving too far from the spawn.
The reason I keep pointing this out is a lot of people who keep talking about stealing and "being an assassin" in public servers aren't going to get this chance because all of the people going to these servers will have gone there for the same reason. Everyone has this vision in their head of them breaking into a castle and stealing its treasure but on a vast majority of servers where this is even allowed there won't be any castles to break into because nobody came to that server to build any. I'm just kind of surprised people haven't come to this realization yet.

You know those large, walled cities in many different MMORPGs, that have all sorts of commodities, shops and a sustainable infrastructure?
That. Made by players. Inhabited by players. This is my idea of what the ideal "Final Step" of SMP co-operation, peace and harmony.

You know those large wastelands they picture in post-apocalyptic scenarios, with several groups of raiders living together in temporary, and probably half-destroyed homes, and other people living in hiding, or in extremely remote places?
That. Destroyed by players. Inhabited by players. This is my idea on what would happen if SMP turns out to be a **** load of people just plundering each other and fighting.

Of course, there's going to be a lot of different servers, but I'd personally like to see the first (less likely) scenario to occur. Even better if it was in a public server. Sure, there'd be raiders, but the city should have enough guards and defenses to stop them from vandalizing anything.
If you don't want to be greifed or murdered just hide house or join one of the large castles or cities for protection.
If the city you join doesn't have a guard or law enforcement system, then to bad, DERP DERP.

How would you be able to establish a city if the 'raiders' just destroy it before the first building is done?

I am OK with PvP as long as the people killing others and destroying their stuff don't mess with me, if they than I will consider it griefing.

And how do you expect to stop them from killing you? Did you get my point? As SOON as you leave the spawnbase, you're 100% defenseless. If they have even a sword you're screwed the moment you're into the world. It could be likened to killing a baby as soon as he or she is out of the womb and claiming he or she should've protected himself or herself. (No abortion argument please; you understand my point.)

Why would somebody build a house if it is inherently useless? Much less a shack?

This right here is the problem. If it's not happening to me, I'm fine with PvP.

Yeah, but I still hate the fact that people are going to grief and are PROUD of that fact.
