Can you survive in a world of total Freedom? In a world where things can be lost, everything has greater value. A diamond pickaxe that you will have forever on a creative build server (99% of them on this forum), is not as valuable to you as a diamond pickaxe that could be taken from you at any second by an army of monsters or another player. As Achilles said: "The gods envy us mortals because we are doomed".
We love our players so we are a 100% Legitimate Server! No cheating or moderator item spawning is allowed to protect your hard work!
Warning to 'fake survival server' players:
"Creative Mode" players will not enjoy this server. This server is best played by those familiar with the game mechanics who are interested in a combat/gathering/hiding/politics challenge. Competitive players are going to enjoy this server alot more than pure builders.
We are a very difficult server to begin in. Politics is a must as you will find alliances/betrayals, and enemies very quickly. Prepare to lose everything you have several times. This server provides challenge, something very rare among 'survival multiplayer' servers. At the beginning you will be weak and people will beat you down. Monsters will feast on your bones, and you will lose items constantly. This failure is part of the process. It will help you begin to follow the survivial routine that most of our players have to adhere to.
You will eventually have a decent hoard with some good items, and a territory you roam. Many other players will try to find your hoard and may stalk you as you become established and they know you have stuff hidden.
The genius day/night cycle notch designed truly shows on our server. People spend all day hurridly gathering goods outdoors. At night they build their base and craft items. Most players don't want to lose health or possible their items fighting zombies, so they don't venture out much at night. You will find yourself asking in general chat when morning is if you are underground. As soon as dawn strikes most players are running out of their homes pretty quickly. Many players keep a watch to get a jump on morning. This allows you to get out of your den before another nearby player can stride into your territory and notice where your base entrance is. It also let's you get a jump on the hunting.
You will feel accomplishment on this server when you get good gear. It is hard-earned and almost as hard to keep. A set of diamond armor is likely to attract groups of ambushers if you are caught alone by them.
Do whatever you want within the game design. No cheating is allowed!

We are succeeding! Aparently many players are looking for what this server believes in! I was charmed to see this little snippet from some new players tonight.

This sounds awesome but with a whitelist and trusted people because with TnT your servers pretty much candy for griefers.
This is a 'survival' server. Not a creative. You have to hide your residences.
There are several schools of thought. Most prefer to place their chests/etc in unambiguous locations underground.
Many players have something of a 'base' which is a workshop. You either build it high in the air or underground. Water moat is preferable. Attacking players will have to approach slowly and without cover and can be sniped off.
Many players will try the sapper approach and mine towards you - but sappers are easy to beat because you know exactly where they will exit and can plant traps or pepper arrows into the ground when they come out.
The irony is that survival servers often have a 'stability of violence' since players risk losing their good gear when they are decked out enough to survive combat with others. This creates a defacto peace - sort of like the real world where we ridiculously have a bunch of nuclear weapons aiming at eachother but risk losing it all if we fire them - so we are at peace with the russians/chinese etc.
There is definitely a bit of duping goin on. However, logs will allow us to rid of those players that do it. Once server side inventory arrives this won't be a problem.
Animal hunting is pretty crucial.
If you want to progress, human hunting is equally crucial. Kill people who have found iron. Maybe I will set Griefalert to tell everyone when someone finds iron/diamond so others will attack for it.
We had some light combat and destruction earlier with cheaters, but they are gone now.
Spawn was moved to a canyon.
A house in the center of the canyon built by luke became the center of alot of action back and forth. Fighting occured between multiple factions over a diamond sword that was very valuable to whoever had it.
Sahblade ended up with the sword. The house was mostly destroyed in combat and is now a ruin. Myself and several players were being chased by sahblade earlier while luke built a new secret base on the east side of the canyon. Unfortunately, we could never sneak to the base without sah seeing us, so we weren't able to link up to luke.
Night falls:
Sahblade retreats to his hidden lair which i presume is somewhere on the west side. Myself and junk take shelter in the ruins of the house, while fighting errant zombies that come in and shoring up the walls for defense. No sign of sahblade - but he'll be back in daylight. Can we make it to the base discreetly before he comes out in the morning?

Walmartsniperlx has a great explanation of this server's idea posted later http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1014&t=106646&p=1597526#p1597526 in this thread.

Anyways, it is up and will be running good for a while. Going to add more slots since it is already popular.
Fire is also great for battling, or for making a perimeter that is hard to cross quickly.
Progress to arrows which are fairly crucial until iron armor and food start showing up, where you need to upgrade your weapons.
Animal hunting is pretty crucial.
If you want to progress, human hunting is equally crucial. Kill people who have found iron. Maybe I will set Griefalert to tell everyone when someone finds iron/diamond so others will attack for it.
I really doubt I would ever return to this server, but how can I get into the whitelist?
HELLS YEA
Nope, no whitelist.
Very much considering it. The only only issue is that people will be able to escape PVPers.
However, a PVPer could pursue someone using their own /spawn. The only one that won't be added is /home for the aforementioned reason.
Consider it done! adding /spawn now.

I had a mean little base going on near Lukes house. Stole some stuff :biggrin.gif: Not that you should know that :S
Sah killed me with said diamond sword, I feel proud.
Unless things have changed in the last 8 hours that I've been asleep and not playing, there's no whitelist to worry about.
