About the Voxel Box
The Voxel Box is one of the longest running Minecraft servers out there, and one of the community's best kept secrets. We've been doing this since a while, now and we think we've got our own flavor of Minecrafting going that isn't quite like anywhere else. We've become a server where some very talented people have built some of the most impressive structures anywhere. ...and we've opened our huge brand-new map, all thirty scale square miles of it!
You will spawn in a large guest area called The Daro (the gold-tinged area to the north on the map below). This area has free resources and allows for free-building by guests to get to know the new textures, strut their stuff and get a place of their own in the larger world:
As you can see, our map features large oceans, created by the land-inversion brush, put together by our crack team of designers, programmers and artful terraformers. Uncharted islands await you, intrepid sailors! Sight-seers, prospective builders and guests are welcome to connect to thevoxelbox.com and come look around.
Features
Here's a small taste of some of the features you'll experience in our world:
A custom set of new textures (credit to kas' painterly for the base) by own on-staff artists provides new and exciting build opportunities. Try out luxurious marble columns, polished granite, copper tubing, thatched roofing, electronic screens and more!:
Citadel City, the hub for our map's growing rail system:
(*NOTE*: You can catch a ride on the D-Line from the Daro / Guest area to Citadel City ( ) from a fully-automated rail station, powered by Minecart Mania), a product whose development we are excited to continue to support!
The S.S. Dauntless ()
The HIGGINS project:
Pumpkin helmets offer re-breathing capabilities for underwater building, and provide night-vision benefits:
Why play on the Voxel Box?
Awesome builds are one reason why we play, but certainly not everything. What makes or breaks a server is the community -- the relatively small amount of people here are a close, tight-knit group who design, work and play well together. And we play hard.
If you're looking for a would-be Survival server with an "economy", dull cobble cities full of wood box-shaped houses, and egotistical administrators on a power trip, feel free to swim in the sea of Minecraft servers that come and go. If you feel that the game right now is about the idea, the plan, and the work: crafting an experience for other players to take in, interact with and enjoy, then this is the server for you.
We restart the server at least once daily for performance, but otherwise it's up as often as we can keep it that way. Regular members are invited to join our Ventrilo server, where we do a lot idea spitballing and planning of new features.
Server Staff
This includes you, we hope. The server would have never got to where it is without a community effort: working and building together, so the real "owners" of the world are players like you and me. But if you're curious about the authoritive types who keep things running smoothly, yeah, we've got a few of those:
A budding programmer and plugin geek, przerwap likes long walks on the beach, spelunking to bedrock, and hacking in new and exciting ways to enjoy the game. Author of FlyMod ( ), VoxelSniper ( ), VoxelGuest and a few other super secret plugins that will change the face of Minecraft forever, at least on our server.
Our dear leader, ridgedog is one of the friendliest and most helpful people to grace the server with his presence. He's the iron fist in a velvet glove, ruthlessly disposing of any who would threaten the peace while providing a warm and welcoming environment for new players. We'd be lost without him.
With more geek cred than the rest of us combined, plusnine rocks the house with his unending flow of detailed art-builds, functional interactive toys, and ideas for new features and textures.
We're not really always about, ELEVn is here when you least expect it. Mostly, he just slacks off and doesn't do muc... wait... is that TNT?!
The genius behind some of our most impressively detailed structures, when Featherblade (not pictured) builds, he builds it bigger. The Citadel, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and other truly epic projects are the product of this man's blood, sweat, and mathematical calculation. He's also the author of the most informative minecraft thread, ever.
Why is there no survival experience on your server?
We really want to make that happen for ourselves and our players, but we don't feel like the game's base code is there yet. The Chocobo Islands are set aside for us to continue work on implementing a satisfying SMP experience apart from the free-build nature of the rest of the map. As soon as we feel the SMP game truly works, players will be able to explore this pristine frontier. Trust us, we're working on a way to make it both fair and fun, we just don't think monster-fighting as it stands is playable in multiplayer.
Meanwhile, we're essentially a creative server, building the world in the image of what we want it to be -- intensely detailed cities, houses, and infrastructure that will one day fuel a true "survival" game environment.
I want to join!
Great! Build all you want in The Daro, and let us know what you've built -- tell us in game, or post in this thread with a screenshot -- and if you make the cut, you'll be added to the whitelist and given permission to build anywhere on the rest of the map. We'll even move what you've built to your favorite .
But now some honest words: This is kind of like the best Minecraft Server I have ever seen. The builds are awesome, the detailing is awesome, the people are awesome and the awesomeness is awesome.
Matt, seriously, stop trolling. So can you please shut the **** up and go troll the infdev forums about how much you want to get 10 bucks from your hobo house?
The map is looking really good, I had to zoom in to find Fiveside Town.

If you're callin' about the Mobtalker scripts, I no longer have access to them.
However, it's been getting tempting lately to put together a modpack that includes CustomNPCs, so I could definitely work in something along the same themes in the modpack's quests. Feel free to give suggestions of mods that promote an experience which minimizes mining grind in favor of exploration. I'll likely have to include Grimorie of Gaia to provide good models (No I'm not gonna directly change the default mob models)
So, you've just built a lovely town in the middle of a vast sea of savagery and wilds? Well then there is a little convention that will make the world integrated and easier to navigate without a map!
Firstly, build yourself a watch tower in town. These towers serve to provide a lookout from enemies and a navigation tool for lost souls or inquisitive historians!
Next, set up 4 signs pointing to the cardinal directions. If you have an even number wide watch tower, get creative with sign placement, but make sure that the directions are easy to read!
Now here's the funnest part! Either explore directly in each cardinal direction, or look at the most recent map of the world you have seen. What you need to do is think of a neat name for the region in each cardinal direction! Pentigan saw on his cartograph that there was a large snow field, so he called it...
But we don't just end there! You can have up to three significant regions on each direction! These could include Oceans, Seas, Channels/straits, islands, forests, deserts, tundras, plains and other cities or features! if there are multiple, list them downwards in order of closest to farthest.
Of course, giving a suffix helps readers tell what they are looking at. 'City', 'Isle, 'Sea' and even more elaborate 'depths' 'woods' and 'taiga' describe exactly what the feature is to the user. Be descriptive and creative!
Now you'll be thinking, "But what if two people build nearby? Who names the regions!" Simply put, you both can! Two civilisations might not have the same name for the same region! Of course, you may always agree on a name together and change accordingly. Just remember to check out your neighbours when naming the land: Their 'Sacred Forest' might be your 'Loggers Retreat'!
Nice new thread! Good to see it updated, for once.
So, bookmarked this one over top the old one.
I can't wait to get back on the server today to finish up the Cathedral in Sealth (and hopefully finish the furnishing in Whirlwind Manor if there's time). I want to finish up the Baker Village area of Sealth & the Seaht Resort by the end of the year (and the train station will be a top priority once a line reaches Sealth). Here's hoping I can do it!
Also, that's a very good idea, Feather. I'll be sure to add one of those someplace in Baker Village. I'm going to have fun naming the surrounding regions... ;D

I got banned for saying that i didn't like the way the tools look...
Thank you for boosting the thread, and getting us a few new potential players! Thanks!
In other news, many titanic structures are appearing around the globe! In particular, an Atlas Figure in the Daro and some legs of what appear to be a gargantuan creature elsewhere. Keep up the work people!

p.s. love the new map!
when you are asked for the Multiplayer Server Ip address put in "thevoxelbox.com" or "www.thevoxelbox.com"
Thank you! I will try this right away.
those are nice textures up there
Although I have yet to make anything too interesting in The Daro, I have made quite a few builds on my own private server...
Lately I've been working on the sydney opera house:
It's definitely not done yet though, and that picture is somewhat old.
Anyways, I love to build huge things and get creative. I hope you like what I've built :biggrin.gif:
