Me either, I've been driving all day so I haven't been able to kick their ass into gear. Just got an update that he is installing it (2 hours ago), guess they got busy with something else. Thank you guys for being patient. The map file is about 600 megs zipped. Whats taking them so long is the first tried to install us on a 32 bit server but because of our map file size / the lack of optimization we need at least 2 gigs running. The tech took a while to figure out that you have to be on a 64 bit machine to launch java using more than a gig. I understand the load he is under, being the only tech who works on minecraft with 60+ new users who are too dumb to install their own mods. In addition to being put to work on things like a starwars server with a customer who cannot even write his config file correctly.

Valve decided to release patches to break **** for three different games so we kinda got stuck on the back burner. I just got off the phone with their tech support and he is working on it again. This downtime is kinda ridiculous but rest assured that I will accept no less than quality (you saw what they tried to give us the lag and shenanagins) I moved our server to Chicago to accommodate our funny hat neighbors. (Oh canada) Thanks for your continued patience.

Update: It sounds like the Chicago server is up and running. We are awaiting the world extraction. Due to the functionality of the windows server API for progress bars (its just for show, doesn't really do anything useful) We do not have a definite ETA. Gaging from the last extraction I would say roughly two hours, but the technicians are changing shift right now, so I sadly cant gaurente anything. I wish I had the money for a direct line to the data center, this would have all been done two days ago.-Welcome to the world of alpha gaming at a release level (big server). My first upload broke due to the previous technician (two of them ago) not closing the zip file on the server, thus corrupting the world file. We have lost our position on mcserverlist ( at one time number 32 with the GC cap of 1000)due to this downtime. I hope you as players can see how dedicated to getting this server back and operational I am, I am doing everything in my power to preserve your hard won map file.
After we get the new server up and the world file extracted, all that is left to do is get the command line edited to launch on a 2gigs.
Just to give you all some math behind this, the previous host would be 90$/mo x3 months = 270$ This host = about 90$ for three months.
Once beta is released hopefully minecraft wont have these ridiculous memory requirements. The new host has actually spoken with notch about some changes to minecraft to fix it up a bit. The new host has also created a portable version of java to increase security of the server..
I deeply appreciate all your donations to get this server running. If you are bored waiting for the server to come up - check out the news on wikileaks! Hope you didn't TL:DR

Hey, Strag. Being a Canadian I can say I appreciate the server move. The Dallas host gave me a very playable ping (mind you I never bothered to check my connection). The downtime is a pain but so long as the host turns out to be good, we'll be happy. Thanks for being so dedicated. :smile.gif:

do you know how to get to the Netherlands other than a portal
Despite my best efforts, it appears that beta will probablly be our best hope at solving our problems. So here is what I am doing, I've got the server up and running on 1 gig with a new map. Going to limit the size of this map and call it temporary until after beta, once the mods are updated with the new modding API we should hopefully be able to either go to our old map, or start anew again. I will be on the server to distribute tools to those who are keeping a close watch. This offer is limited for 2 hours. Once I get all the mods uploaded I will launch the server.

I wouldn't bet too much on the beta being a drastic change from Alpha, but it's nice to know the server's up.
But I can't seem to connect, Minecraft is telling that either the server or my client is outdated.
Everyone else has loaded in fine, try both versions of minecraft.exe There are huge changes between beta and alpha including a new mod API (coding lanugage), server side inventory... and much more.
