As stated earlier, we're currently waiting on our server host to get everything set up.
In the mean time, why not post suggestions on our forums? http://minerealm.com/community/
Also, since we've paid for december, we're at 30/130 to keep the server for january.
Just thought I'd keep you guys posted c:
according to a previous post you, intelli, stated that the server would be up at 6pm est at the latest...
i guess its worth it for such an awesesome server, but i would have loved to be able to play 4 hours ago
PvP is likely to be allowed everywhere except for spawn without fail. However.... People were describing leveling structures in minutes that people have put hours and even days into, I will NOT stand by while this happens. Raids can be facilitated, but a raid that involves destroying other peoples buildings should be run by a mod or an admin first so that we know that both involved parties agree to this compromise. I will ban if I see someone griefing someone else's house, unless I am warned, or another mod is on who was warned. That is my ultimatum, other mods may do it differently.
Also, about buckets... I agree that they should be allowed, but should be carefully watched. I can tell when you use a bucket... Chances are, I will check up on you through a message if I see that, just to make sure that the whole server, or even just a portion is not being flooded or burned. I doubt that buckets will ever be evective pvp besides in seige warfare... Speaking of which, I am going to be constructing a hidden underground city which I plan to involve in some PvP activities as well as a TON of super fun, easy going, rollplaying. Keep an eyes out on the minerealm forums for "Orzimoria" (Not very original, Orzimar+Moria, but oh well...).
So!!! Minerealm's survival server *still is* a PVP server but now we have to be careful that we dont scratch any sensitive creative builders when Seuter is logged. :sad.gif:((
:"<msg>(raisky) OK!!! I'mm destroying the enemy's walls! I hope they are not Creative Walls.. those are the most dangerous! OMG!!!! (pickpickpickpick) there i notified you now you can watch and gawk or go do your job as moderator and find some real greifers! :)"
- - - ((Meanwhile other "creation" in raisky's yard had been destroyed... (A mile high dirt dungeon disguised as a modern non-minerealm high rise tower made of diamonds.) with a chest full of wooden shovels!!!! THe incident was labeled as "greif" by misguided amateur wannabe investigator players turning eachother in to the authorities... Raisky was pleased to see the 3 skeletons in traps when he returned after the server had been brough back online and labaled the incident as a success...))
I figure anything built in the survival server is a defensive construction and thus fair game for destruction. When you smash something, just don't advertise the fact that your raiding someone else and you should be fine.
Personally, the only reason I would NOT want to join this server is douchebag mods, which Seuter seems to be.
It's a survival server, if your not going to stand for it, then sit down and shut your mouth. If people can take the time to make a giant "oh mah gawsh" sculpture, but can't take the time to hide it, theres creative mode for a reason.
I know I haven't exactly been on this server yet, but it's just plain common sense anyone should know. If your playing on a survival server, hide your stuff. Put it inside a hill or such. Is that so hard? The people that will disagree with me here are creativists at heart, who have gotten "greefd" one too many times.
The beauty of SMP is that nothing can last forever. Think of a year old server, walking through the valleys and seeing ruins of houses, half of sculptures, etc. Think of the tension and entertainment the game could bring if you knew the house your in could be mounted with TNT traps.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Cry a river. Punch a tree. Craft and build a wooden bridge over the river. Use your bridge to GET OVER IT.
After contacting the Data Center, I have been informed our server will be provisioned to us by the end of the day. I can't make any guarantees, but it could possibly be up later tonight.

^ I'm about half and half on this. While i've been in the pvp world since i first started online gaming about 15 years ago, ive always kept the same mentality... don't destroy it if there's no real reason to. I mean really... why go blow up a huge sculpture and waste resources if there's nothing really in it for you? SMP and the recent introduction of PVP says 1 thing to me. We can get to where we want to be quicker by killing other players and looting their chests/corpse drops, etc. Theres no point in build a bunch of tnt and and blowing the hell out of an entire city when there's nothing to gain out of it aside from making an eyesore. It's just stupid to me. While people like that are blowing stuff up, i'll be busy raiding houses, killing players and stealing their stuff and eventually stealing the guys stuff whos blowing stuff up and hoarding it all for myself and my teammates :tongue.gif: It isn't necessary to blow stuff up unless you know for sure there are chests hidden beneath the floors/in a cave, etc.. and the chances are somewhat slim. Even if thats the case, i would rather get a diamond axe/shovel and find them rather than wasting tnt.
So that brings me to feel somewhat to and fro on the whole "AMGGZZ GREEFZ!" thing. i don't destroy nice structures because they look cool, but furthermore because i really dont have any business or have to gain by doing so. now if i see the builder trying to build... he's a dead man and his chests will be emptied. but im not going to waste my time blowing his stuff up unless it looks like a heavily reinforced fort. And no, that doesnt mean a wooden house or a stone house they are obviously building as just shelter or a simple above ground town. Use good judgement. it's easy to see the difference. Towns to me arent really much of a threat unless they are heavily reinforced or are underground. then you KNOW they are probably building them as some sort of base used in war. Other towns that are obviously built just to house people or are used for social gatherings usually have chests that are in plain view and people to kill. there isnt a point to destroying them.
I don't know. I don't think i'm alone in having a better focused goal that both caters to peoples creations to a degree, but still harnessing the raw destructive killing power that people possess :tongue.gif:
I guess the only real foolproof way to make structures last would be to protect them, but even then you dont want to protect so much that there is no room for development in the world. that's why i had suggested picking 5 cities to protect scattered through the world and having new people randomly spawn within 1 of those 5 cities. that would at least allow them to come into the server with a nice view/not falling 20 feet and losing half their hearts as soon as they get in. Or just have newcomers spawn randomly through the world so people dont spawncamp and pk them.
i logged into the minerealm forums and all i can see is "announcements" and "updates"... when i log out i can see everything again... any idea why??????

Sorry, but there's no need to be sarcastic in that manner. :/
Seuter is worried about widespread map destruction practically. Mass world flooding pushes that 'grey area' of griefing in survival, since covering the entire landscape in lava or water really isn't needed.
As he said, each mod their own. Each server mod will have a different opinion on what's what in the survival map. I'm sure though if you have an issue you can contact one of the admins through the Minerealm forums and they will look into solving it if they can. :/
In my opinion, Seuter needs to realize that destruction of peoples work is a part of survival multiplayer, and there's no point in trying to stop it. It steals from the point of protecting your structures, hiding them so no one can find them and being resourceful. I wouldn't have an issue with a mod present, but so long as there wasn't interference.
Just give the server admins time to lay out the rules to what can and cannot be done in the Survival server before jumping to conclusions. :smile.gif:

Again, no need to jump to conclusions that this is how the survival server is going to be like. PvP isn't even going to be enabled I thought I read somewhere until Notch irons it out?

I'm pretty sure those issues have been ironed out. i've been playing pvp on various servers and it all seems to work fine to me. no more invisible bug, arrows work fine (and are fun as hell to snipe people with xD) and you get a 3 second invincibility once you respawn to try and help with spawn campers. Everything seems to work fine to me.
I'm pretty sure those issues have been ironed out.
Yeah I think all PVP bugs have been ironed out, I can't think of any other bugs right now related to PVP except for the mobs not flashing when hit. I'm not sure if that's intended by Notch or not though. So at this point I see no reason why PVP should be disabled on the survival server.
Thanks JoBoDo!

We still have not received word from our host. I plan to contact them, personally, if the server isn't set up within an hour.
any news?
