Also I'm modding the java wrapper to add some missing functionality. So far I've filled in code to get a MOTD working. I'll be working on some more general commands/functionality today and a server command to track our server's diamond deposit. If I get much done I'll release it for public use.
You should add a command for admins to track diamond counts.
Like, if someone (in admins perspective) shows me a diamond. I say #diamondadd <player name> 1, and it adds 1 diamond to the person's diamond record.
I'd like to join this fine cup of vanilla milkshake (****)
I'm clearly a minecrafter (****, wait no) that would like to build objects in the sky with 2 inch blocks, because I would use five thousand ramps if we had any other placeable shapes. In all seriousness, I'm just going to build a city in the sky connected to another city underwater which has a cool looking minecart station on land.

Ya I started to work on that yesterday and well - my coding is a bit rusty. The guy who wrote the java wrapper probably did it in a day, wheras it would take my nub skills a day just to modify a copy-paste version of one of his commands to what I want to do. D: I'll probably do it when I have some time to kill.

May I join this server? Ingame name is the same as my username here.
EDIT: Also, from what I've heard, /iron has been nerfed. Are furnaces functioning properly now? Sorry if I'm missing something here.
/iron doesn't work on this server. /wood does for some reason but I'm not too concerned about that at the moment. Furnaces work but they are quirky: you must create a regular furnace and place it, then you must create flint and steel (or /lighter to get one) and light the tile UNDER the furnace. It will then work for one use. Remember to stick by it while smelting and to remove the finished product asap
Ok so I've got a few days now under my belt in my new home, and just to give people an idea of what's going on in this place. First off, I've been to a few servers and found the majority of regulars are nice people, and this is the same - everyone is good natured. The difference between Kin's place and the others, is Kin's effort to keep it a friendly and constructive place. There has been one grief attempt which was squelched pretty quickly, with minimal damage (lost maybe 20 trees at spawn which were replanted and regrown easily) - and this single grief was from a person who was invited on a recommendation, so it was someone who was willingly allowed access. Unfortunately after a couple hours of him being a normal player, he turned griefer - but was dealt with accordingly.
But back to the point - Kin is an active and level headed admin of the server. He's been keeping it up to date with the wrapper, attempting to mod it to suit further needs, and in the course of our playing on his server, a couple of holes/bugs in the wrapper have been found, duly pointed out to the author, and hence the wrapper was updated with fixes rather quickly. Not that we're taking credit for anything, just pointing out that Kin is on top of issues and not only addresses them on the server, but passes that information on to people who need it.
The atmosphere here is loose and friendly, while still having some set-in-stone rules to maintain a desired type of gameplay. This server aims to be what it says - Vanilla. No freebies, no shortcuts, etc. AFAIK the only thing that was given exception for this was an obsidian PvP arena (for when the time comes) near spawn. It's a tasteful structure and was necessary to be obsidian for obvious reasons. Besides that, you earn what you have here 100%. The diamond system is outlined in the initial post, and has been working very well for allowing people to work towards building assets and not be pissed when they crash or have to log. Besides the obvious implications of a vanilla gameplay + no griefing, the only other rule I can think of is a loose respect for aesthetics. That is, don't leave pillars around, don't half chop trees, don't build something blatantly ugly/formless, and try to respect the *look* of the natural environment as you exploit it. Want to strip mine? Go for it! But try to do it in such a way that there isn't a giant crater open to the air. Need to gather 2 stacks of sand for glass - perfectly fine, just take an extra 2 minutes during your shoveling and try to keep the shoreline somewhat normal looking - don't just gouge out a focused hole/trench in a small area. This isn't so much a rule as it is a convention we're trying to uphold. I don't think you'd get banned for an offense such as this, but don't be surprised if someone covers your stripmine crater with some dirt and trees to return the hillside contours. It doesn't take much time at all to be a little smart about *how* you exploit the environment to keep it from looking ravaged.
I'm not sure how many regulars there are exactly, but of the ones I have been playing with, we all have our established homesteads, several players have begun a "trading post" and that in turn triggered a mini-economy to emerge. Now we are all stockpiling various ores, some of which we store in our forts, and some more valuable assets are buried in a (hopefully) secluded and secret area - just incase. As of now I've not heard or suspected anyone of theft, and plenty of fair trades in materials have been made.
In short (sorry for rambling), it's been a completely enjoyable experience. I see a lot of discussion about how griefing, and theft, and destruction is "part of" SMP and therefore is acceptable or *to be expected* - but this server proves that doesn't have to be the case. Here we all share a common desire to play a cooperative type of game without shortcuts, and that is what we have in this server. We are not opposed to PvP, infact plenty of us have theorized about alliances and battles - so our peaceful way of life right now doesn't necessarily mean a boring future... but I have complete faith that when the time comes for PvP, the result of a battle lost will likely be your (obvious) vaults raided and not the complete decimation of your land by TNT.
TL;DR - In short, best server yet for the player who knows the varying differences between cooperation, competition, honor, and grief.
I'd like to join, but I suppose you still aren't letting in '1 posters' like me. :/
If you do add me though, my in-game is the same, Supertycoon.
I review applicants profiles for information to make a judgment call on their personality. Can't do that without info, sorry.

First of all, awesome post and I'm glad you like the server so much! I'd like to note that when it was made llamacraft didn't exist so there was no way to create obsidian, thus it was on the summon list (along with water, lava, and furnaces). But if I wanted to make it now.... oh god. I'd have to do it the old fashion way just like everyone else!
A non-server related question: How did you make the birds-eye view of your map you posted in the first post? I tried cartographer but it is way too much zoomed out.
I have been on the forums since March but have not had much time to actively participate or develop a profile(I am not much of a forum person =/, I would rather spend my time playing the game!). If you are still looking for players I would love to be a part of this.
I am a cave explorer and gatherer, and would love to be part of a resource/supply chain. I enjoy farming and mining extensively(if you'd like I can send some screens of my enormous cactus farm!) I also am interested in building a collaborative city including the work of land clearing, resource gathering, and the actual building itself.
I've been playing the game lots, so I can' say much for my post count, but I've been hosting a private server for a few of my friends that is quite exactly like this, and was looking for a place to rest from hosting my own server by joining a similar server to my own. :3
id like to join your server, i dont post much. (can never think of what to say sometimes)

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
I would really like to join, and here is a little bit of information about myself to help your judgement of who I am.
I see you are basing some of your judgements based off of post count, and I have also noticed that most people here do have low post counts as well as recent join dates, which is indeed indicative of griefers, however I have been here for a bit, lurking mostly, and getting ideas from other people. I really like where the TNT cannon technology is going and my current WIP is a biodome made out of glass, inspired by this guy ( viewtopic.php?f=35&t=20984&hilit=site+b ) except I think mine is a tad larger (101 blocks from end to end. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=23637&p=426737&hilit=circle+chart#p426737) it is nearing completion (several trillion stone shovels and pickaxes have lost their lives to this project), and when it is complete I plan to add another layer of snow blocks on top of the glass for added effect.
I myself have been quite concerned about the SMP griefer (who should all be burned at the stake) situation and have stayed away from it (in fear of my stuffs being killed Q.Q) until now. your server looks like a great place to make a home in and be able to go to bed knowing that it will still be there when I wake up in the morning.

move your server world to single player data as a world and use http://minecraft.net/infdev/preview.jsp
its a bit buggy. I had to refresh the page 5 times to get that much
