8. Applying to the Server
What is Minecraft Nations?
Minecraft Nations is a [Light RP-PvPvE] dedicated 100 slot server accompanied by a 512 slot Teamspeak server backed by a team of like-minded individuals bringing to the community a working concept in a unique and revolutionary manner. Large scale PvP battles, territory sovereignty, with a thriving (or failing) national and world economy. Players will have their own story to tell based on the lore of each nation. The story of each nation unfolds further each day and will be maintained and further written into history by your actions You will create your own world, alone as a mercenary, thief or a freelance trader, or together as a nation: make great alliances and wage war against a common enemy or together make all who stand before you kneel before your power. We aim for a free spirited and open world, as little of restrictions will be placed on you as long as we may maintain a positive experience for all of our members.
Each nation will have their own government provided by them. They as a nation are responsible for how they run things and may create any law or regulation for their people as long as it abides to the rules of the server. Ranks, positions and such are also up to the nations. Each nation is supposed to emulate a real nation; with strong leadership and willing citizens any nation has the chance to be the dominant power. Nations are not permanent and it is possible for them to be dissolved or conquered, this concept is meant to be dynamic and the choices made by each nation or individual may affect and change the world.
In addition to the main concept of the server, there will be server sanctioned events. Such as Arena, Grief Ball, Bomberman, Spleef and more to come! Custom dungeons, treasure, and hidden surprises are also spread throughout the world and are constantly being added.
2. Brief World Lore
In the beginning of this chapter, on the planet of Azrielia there will be three nations: The Crypts of Azrielia, The Chosen, and the United Earth Empire each fighting for their very existence. These Nations will be fighting over land, resources, manpower and the overarching marvels of Azrielia. The last remains of a great Empire… is housed on a the former highest peak of the world and capital of this foreign land has succumbed to Mother Nature’s undiscriminating natural decay and neglect over the course millions of years since the fall of the Ancients of Azrielia. But, the city remains untouched till this day; it is as pristine as when it was built. This is only one mystery the city withholds. Many secrets and riches lay within the capital and in the lands of Azrielia and in the brute reality only a fraction of the city is visible, the rest buried in time. Hiding its secrets, hiding in plain sight, its powers untold and forgotten.

3. Brief Nation Lore
Each nation has their own beliefs and virtues, their stories might conflict with each other, but each nation believe their own story to be the absolute truth. Please remember it is possible for these nations to cease to exist as the world changes as nations fall and rise.
3.1 Crypts of Azrielia
Eons ago, this planet was inhabited by a culturally adept civilization, not too different to humans. Their illustrious cities spanned the globe, a true testament to their unity and social advancement. But little did they know, after all the problems they overcame, it would be a simple genetic defect that would eventually end their reign. As the centuries passed, their great cities became nothing more than tombs. Once again, the creatures of the night laid claim to this world. Hope was not lost, and it would seem the plight had not affected all sapiens on the planet. The Chosen, as they call themselves, had not been affected. Due to their genetic superiority bestowed to them by a dark deity they believe to be their creator. They choose not the path of science and technology, but the path of worship and dark ritual.
It was a night like any other, when a great metallic ship shook the world. Tearing through the night sky, fire and metal raining down like some dreaded apocalypse. It shook the world so, that it had woken the very dead.
Now awake, not quite alive, and not quite dead: the Azrielians seek to destroy those who disturbed their slumber and seek to reclaim the land that once supported their great civilization.
Although, the Chosen believe the Azrielians to be an imperfect versions of themselves and seek to destroy them. The Azrielians hold no grudge and believe them to be the only true heirs to their illustrious world. The spirits of these ancient people are like arrows flying towards their target, the invaders, and if the Chosen stand in the way... They will be destroyed.
The Azrielians do not understand why they have been bound to this plain of existence once again. Perhaps it is the work of the Chosen, a byproduct of their dealings with dark creatures of immense power. Perhaps the dark deity itself is solely responsible for this abomination of nature, or maybe… the planet just needed them…
The question remains unanswered, and war rages on…
3.2 The Children of Bhaal – “The Chosen”
Founded by the master prophet Chobo, The Children of Bhaal believe that their god placed them onto this planet for a specific purpose - to protect the lands from the banished (The Crypt of Azriel) who have risen again from their long imprisonment. The Chosen, as they refer themselves to, are the protectorate of His way and have been guarding these lands for millenniums. Those who follow the Way - live a life of pure dedication to Bhaal and their Blood-Brothers.
• The nation is run as an Oligarchy led by the Master Prophet and the Council of Blood.
• The Blood Brothers (Citizens) live in a total commune. Therefore our resources, equipment and gear are shared and supplied. However it is expected that all members fully contribute and do their active part for the greater good. Failure to do so will result in the expulsion from society.
• There is a hierarchy caste system within our nation which allows individuals to ascend in the ranks and perform different roles.
3.3 United Earth Empire
The United Earth Empire, the culmination of human spirit and unity. After years of turmoil and war, Earth was finally united under one nation. Centuries of peace followed the unity. Technology had advanced enough where space travel was common, but it was only matter of time before we met intelligent life.
It was soon after the Great Wars began. Over 80 years had passed where the battle for human existence had raged on. They were on Earth’s doorstep, when the Flagship of the Empire “The Emperor’s Fist” took heavy fire. The Emperor, Schuttle was on board accompanied by the best men and women of the Empire. Earth’s last fleet stood in between the aliens and Earth. In the last stand to save Earth, the Emperor ordered the firing of an experimental weapon, this weapon created a temporary wormhole that would encompass the enemy fleet. But this wormhole would also consume the Flagship with it.
The weapon worked; it had done its’ job the Flagship and the aliens were not anywhere near Earth. None of the alien ships survived the trip, but the Flagship was built to withstand this but being heavily damaged it started to crumble. The only choice was brace for a crash landing on the nearest planet. That would be Azrielia. Most of the ship broke apart upon reentry but large portions still created craters throughout the planet. Most of crew would not survive the wilderness for one night scattered across the planet. The Emperor and his royal guard found the main wreck of the Flagship and made homestead; an old nation, a new planet, and new enemies. Earth now is now in the past, but its legacy never forgotten.
3.4 Non-Aligned Individuals
Non-aligned individuals are those who do not wish to be under a nation and wish to remain on their own. There will be limited availability of whom we accept to be a NAI. Please know that you will not gain any advantages that others will gain belonging to a nation. But you will gain absolute freedom. But with this freedom comes a cost. Your life will be more at risk than anyone else, but during times war it might be the safest…

4. Gameplay Mechanics
Nations are responsible for creating their own forms of government, laws, and regulations and successfully govern their people. The laws, regulations, and ranks should be posted in the public area of the nation’s forum.
The only limitations to nations at this time are as follows.
A nation may have only a single capital city and but they may have as many outpost cities as they see fit.
There are a maximum of 7 officers per nation.
An officer is any person who is in a position of command or leadership. Each nation should have recognizable titles for the officers of their nation.
Officers are beacons of control of each nation, if all officers are killed than it is up to the citizens of that nations to save themselves, the nation will have officially dissolved and any assets belonging to them are no longer under their official control.
4.1.1 Capital Cities
Capital Cities are the heart of each nation. The location of each Capital City must be approved by an administrator before being built for a new nation. Currently, there are 3 capital cities and they create a triangle around the Azrielia’s Capital City (Center City)
The capital cities are protected from all attacks, pillaging, and destruction when it is not capital city raiding time. The only exception is infiltration squads please see that entry for more information.
The maximum size of a capital city is 256 blocks in diameter. Any buildings further than this are in the wilderness. Capital cities may set their borders less than 256.
4.2 Capital City Raiding Event
4.2.1 Nation Conquering/Dissolving
Nations are vulnerable during capital city raiding event. Nations will be fighting for their very existence. Any nation may be conquered, dissolved, and defeated. To be able to conquer, dissolve or defeat a nation you must kill all of its officers during capital city raiding.
Each officer carries the officer’s stone. Each officer must hold an obsidian block at all times that they are online during capital city raiding time. If they are logging off then the officer’s stone must be placed in their office or homestead on top of their personal city capture block (see next entry for capture block explanation) at their nation’s capital. This allows for the officer to be “killed” even though they are not online during raid time. To conquer or dissolve a nation you must own all seven officer stones by the end of the raiding time.
If the nation is conquered than the conquering nation may absorb up to 50% of the conquered nations total populous. It is the populist’s choice to be absorbed, flee to another nation, or become an NAI.
If a nation loses all of its officer’s stones but the capital is untouched than the nations’ cities will automatically become non-aligned cities and any nation may claim their cities as their own or the cities’ populous may elect to start a new nation.
If a nation loses its capital city but still has at least one officer that holds a stone than that nation persists without a capital city. In this event, the only way for a nation to re-attain their officer stones is not by capital city raiding time ending but by taking them from other officers of a warring nation.
4.2.2 City Capture/Destruction
Cities can be destroyed, pillaged, and conquered. During capital city raiding time a nation’s capital may be completely destroyed, pillaged, and gain the vulnerability of being captured by a warring nation. Outpost cities may be attacked at any time and are not subject to any protection besides from its own nation.
Capital City Raiding
To capture a capital city a warring nation must be able to destroy all 7 capital city control points before the capital city raiding time ends. After is it captured you must rebuild the control points by the next capital city raiding event.
Outpost City Raiding
To capture and control an outpost city a warring nation must be able destroy the single outpost city control point. After it is destroyed you must immediately build a new control point.
4.2.3 Death of a Nation Leader
Each nation has a self-proclaimed leader or possibly one elected by their citizens and it will have grave consequences if the leader were to die during a capital city raiding event. If the leader of a nation dies or is not online during a capital city raiding event the warring nation will only need to destroy and capture 3 of the 7 control points and 3 of the 7 officer stones to capture or conquer the capital city or nation.
The nation leader upon death will become a grunt of that nation. He or she is no longer allowed to command his forces. After the end of capital city raiding event if his or her nation still persists than the people or officers may either elect a new leader or reinstate his or her power.
4.2.4 Azrielia’s Capital City (Center City)
During the capital city raiding event, the ruins of the Capital City of Azrielia are open for capture. This illustrious city is impervious to damage and holds many advantages if held. Riches and treasure are also to be found within its walls.
It can be an advantage and both a burden to hold this city. This city is at the center of the three nation’s capital cities. Be prepared to take enemies from all sides if you have no allies.
4.3 Wilderness PvP
Once you leave the protection of the walls of your capital city or the protected areas of the welcome area. Absolutely anything goes as long as it abides to the servers rules. Be wary of land under a nation’s sovereignty, although still considered the wilderness, the nation might not like your presence…
4.4 Territory Sovereignty
Territory is vast and it nearly impossible to hold lands with an iron fist if it not enclosed within walls. But that does not mean you can’t attempt to claim all that open land. All nations may attempt to claim any amount of land they wish. It is their job to do what they deem is necessary to ensure the security of their people and assets in that land.
The economy is a gold based market economy. Each nation is given a stipend of 512 gold per week. National taxes are also encouraged. The gold reserve of each nation should be one of that nation’s closely guarded secrets; it can be looted like anything else.
Bartering is also strongly encouraged.
Gift economy is also encouraged.
Scamming is allowed, but frowned upon.
You should never attack any nation blindly without knowing their strengths and weaknesses. Espionage can lend clues to capital cities weaknesses or strengths that can help your nation plan out your battle plans.
Espionage can be carried out in the following ways that will not break server rules.
4.6.1 Double Agents
You may attempt to have someone work for your nation or buy information through bribery or any means abiding to the rules of the server.
4.6.2 Infiltration Squads
Limited to 2 people, before a squad can be allowed to infiltrate this squad must be notified and approved by a Super Moderator. At the moment, Kaeldo is the only Super Moderator. Teams are only permitted subsequently if Kaeldo is online.
If the squad is approved, they may pillage, loot, and destroy anything in the capital city that was approved to infiltrate.
Infiltration Squads must be reapproved with each death or re-infiltration by the squad. There is a minimum of a 4 hour grace period per infiltration if the entire squad escapes with their lives. If any squad member dies there is a 48 hour minimum grace period. The Super Moderator will choose at random a number greater than or equal to 4/48 hours as that squad’s personal grace period.
Squads will be approved as long as at least 7 members of that nation are online.
Kaeldo is a NAI, and is not part of any nation and is a trusted full time moderator.
5. Event Schedule
5.1 Capital City Raiding
The first raid ever on our server is scheduled to take place on the 25th of December, 2010.
After this takes place raids will take place on every Saturday of each Month.
Raid will start at 1:00 PM PST/4:00 PM EST/21:00 Hours UTC/GMT
Raid will end at 4:00 PM PST/7:00 PM EST/0:00 Hours UTC/GMT
Plans are to increase the frequency of raids once server population increases.
5.2 Arena Events
Currently all Arena events take place at random and follow no schedule.
Plans to solidify a schedule will be introduced when server population increases.
6. Server Rules and Regulations
6.1 Global Server Rules
[+] Abide by all the mechanics defined.
[+] Kill, pillage, and cause destruction to other players in the wilderness.
Note: I recommend you do not to attack your own nation in the wilderness.
[+] Be respectful and mature to all players and admins.
[+] Have fun. This server is meant for the community and you to have fun.
[-] Attack, destroy, or pillage any capital city out of the specified capital city event time.
[-] Set forests on fire via any means directly or indirectly.
[-] Cheat or Hack.
[-] Beg, Whine, or Cry.
[-] Disrespect other players or admins.
6.2 Grieving Policy:
Before you do anything that may be in the slightest degree considered grieving. Please ask yourself this question.
“Would an idiot do that?”
Then, if an idiot would do that, don’t do it.
Intentional grieving is instant permanent ban, no questions asked.
6.3 Zero Tolerance Policy:
If a user commits an action that is against server mechanics/rules/ and/or event rules that user will be given a single notification of that rule and will be asked to stop.
If that user does not comply, they will be banned or kicked based on the discretion of the moderator and the degree of the incriminating action.
7. Server Reliability & Specifications
Through our experience our server has been running without hicks or slips. Our physical server has 100% uptime, but with Minecraft being updated by Notch frequently please be wary that the virtual server for Minecraft may need to be taken down to apply updates. Please understand with each update it will introduce new things and stability will increase.
Also, please understand any addons we use will probably break with each update. We have contingency plans in the event for any addon breaking on our server.
If downtime is needed to update, we will make sure to have the server up as soon as possible. This usually should only take less than 10 minutes if things all go smoothly.
Our server runs on an Intel Quad with 16 Gigabytes of RAM. Through our testing this is more than enough for a Minecraft Server ensuring maximum performance.
Our server runs on an enterprise grade gigabit connection ensuring maximum bandwidth to our members for lag free gameplay.
The network is guaranteed to be free of outages 100% of the time.
The network packet loss will not exceed 1%.
Please Note: This does not include your ISP, from our alpha testers on the server some testers have experienced high packet loss, and this is due to their ISP and not the server.
7.4 Fault Tolerance
This server runs two one terabyte drives in RAID 1. Offering protection against data loss via mirroring if one of the drives fails; we will still have one drive with all of the data preserved.
7.5 Backups & Redundancy
We understand our users will be investing a good amount of time when they play, and they would not like their data loss to corruption, failure, or any means.
We save our world every 15 minutes.
We will have on server backups run every 2 hours.
We will have offsite R1 Soft backups run on the entire directory (which includes on server hourly backups) daily.
We will have an additional off site back up run daily.
We will have an additional off site “offline” back up run weekly. A backup will be downloaded to a known clean system then, while that system is disconnected from the internet a transfer will then be committed to the offline storage.
With 4 ways of backing up, 3 being off site this provides a high level of protection for your investment should things go amiss.
