Hello everybody, Im just your average day Minecraft player who had an extra laptop running linux, who decided to try out making his own server for him and his friends.
BACKSTORY
JAVA
One of the main reasons why i love Minecraft so much is that 2 years ago i started learning java, and after taking 3 classes, i started teaching myself. I cant really show off anything, so please dont ask, but hearing about Minecraft, and how its in java really got my attention.
THE SERVER BEGINS
I started messing with the commands, and user permissions, while jordan826 was experimenting with minecarts (which are terrible, atleast on my server =P) and stuff like that. Soon after, my brother Cellzero, and my friend Darkdivinity also joined my server.
THE FIRST EVENTS
As we started to build our buildings with spawned items and tools, we kind of made a competition to see whos house was the best. Unfortunately i was more focused on building buildings focused on other aspects of our little town we were building, rather than my house....so i came in dead last ^-^.More and more i built more...town focused buildings. Canals to get around easier (because minecarts suck), storage buildings for everyone. And since we all know each other, its all really a lot of fun.
THE TOWN BEGINS
But....while we were all building and having fun, i was thinking about the longevity of the server....and i knew things were going to slow down to a crawl, and eventually people would lose interest. Thats when i got to thinking: its a lot more fun on single player when you can spawn items (and minecarts!). So as i was trying to think of what to do on my server, me and my brother cellzero were experimenting with user permissions. We got a certain group to not be able to spawn items, but also be able to build/destroy. This would eliminate many bad things: the server getting boring, people spawning useless items, and most of all griefing attempts.
THE GOOD PART
THE MADNESS BEGINS!!!
With the item spawning gone...i had to think of something else to bring interest to all time high. So during a few school days, and one long night, i developed a Minecraft economy system within my server. Using gold bars as the base for money, i slowly and carefully started pricing every single item in the game. Now before i started doing this, i realized that gold tools and armor would possibly rule/destroy this system, and i also am still not able to prohibit users from crafting gold tools and armor, and im not sure if i can (please tell me if u can, and how). But with everything priced, i also began thinking: how am i going to distribute the items and gold???
SHOPS
My server has not only a full fledged economy, it has a small but expanding town with shops. An auction house, a bank, a blacksmith, a food store (better when you can get hurt, and/or have hunger), general store (dubbed "MineMart"), a building supply store, a glass/window store, and multiple farms. And within all of these buildings, a certain area inside town, is owned by the bank, and is available for purchase. You buy the land you wish to build on, and the land you dont want others building on or over. Houses are available to sell or buy, along with shops too (prices are completly up to the owner).
Now maybe im CRAZY, and maybe im reading too far into this whole server deal. But who likes my idea and is maybe interested in joining?
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
AND IM WORKING ON IT EVERYDAY TO TRY AND PREPARE FOR MORE PEOPLE!!!
THE UPDATE!!!!
11/3/2010
Yes thats right, we just updated the ENTIRE SERVER!!!
not only are our specs 5 times better, but i also did some more plugin work.
Still at most i think 10-15 people could run smoothly on the server.
WERE STILL WORKING ON THIS PROJECT
wow, okay well i guess i didnt look up to see if anyone had already done the whole economy thing :happy.gif:;;...well im not going to be discouraged, ill just have to make mine better!!!! XD

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
but as we get more awesome Minecrafters in our server, our town (which will be named soon) will grow.
OMJIZZLE BEST IDEA EVER
BUMPPPPPP
I wantz IP so bad!!
major in economy now sounds fun!
A lot more people wanna join than i though...uhh...^-^;;.....im just gona be honest...until i upgrade the server. AT MOST....i wanna say 10 people can be on at once....AND IM PRETTY SURE THATS PUSHING IT....and i also might have to limit exploring a lot too....but if i can have people focus on the town after i get it protected today than i think it will be pretty good.... im going to update the post with the rules today, aswell as protect the entire town from building, because you have to buy the land in order to be allowed to build on it... You can also pool your money between a few people to buy land too, but then multiple people will be able to build on your land.
For the next couple hours im going to be protecting everything so...after you join the server, and are promoted 1 time....you will be able to build but only in permitted areas (land you own and stuff like that)....this will 100% stop griefing unless there is a hacker or something.... I will also try to set up some sort of paypal account for anyone who wants to donate so i can upgrade the server....i kind of lost my job over the summer...so i have no direct income. (cry cry)....so any donations will immediatly be going to any upgrades to the server that can be made. I will probly put the donations thing in my signature. YOU DONT HAVE TO DONATE, but if you do, THANKS ^-^.
I would love playing on your server, also think you could set up some clans or something in it so we can all make villages around the capitol. I mean obviously we can but maybe a more organized system than some servers. Then I would love to play, economies are the bestest :biggrin.gif:
I am very VERY interested in this idea, mostly my minecraft experience has been solo or playing with my server, but I love the idea of a inbuilt economy (we had a township built on my previous world but with noone to play in it and no items/currency, it was a ghost town lol). Anyway, I would love to play on your server if you'd be willing to accept me (I joined the forums specifically because of how awesome this sounds)
