Hello.
I hear you need to forward a port to set up your own server.
I have the server setup files, Omen, etc. I changed "verify names" to false, but when I try the External URL, it says it can't connect, and the server is probably down.
Even though I've run the start server batch.
I'm a n00b when it comes to ports, at portforward.com which port do I forward and how do I do it?
I don't want to open up my computer to viruses or anything either.
Also, as I remember more questions that I had (I'm tired ATM, need sleep), and possibly encounter more problems, I'll use this topic to ask for help.
Please try and be as detailed as possible, but at the same time, any information helps, so don't be afraid to post.
Thanks very much!
Ah don't worry about viruses, mainly we will need to find out what type of router you have. It should display right on it, mine is a Linksys.
Oh wait, lol, I read that the external URL doesn't work if it's your server. My bad.
Okay, so I set up the cmss script, and when I go to the personal use adress (with the IP and port in the name), I get illegal name error. But when I use cirticsquid's mspass way, it works (although every time I refresh I have to do it again...).
However, none of the special commands work (!8ball, !quote, etc). I just say them in chat and nothing happens. It's like the cmss stuff isn't even there.
if I use the WoM client, it says the server is down, when it actually isn't.
What exactly do I do with the cmss.py file? It's in the same folder as everything else, and I did the batch script which you said to do in some other topic...
Do I:
A) Copy the contents of cmss.py into the Server.properties file
or
:cool.gif: Keep the Server.properties file as it was, and just make that small batch file like you said.
or
C) Copy the contents of cmss.py into the Server.properties file and make the batch file too.
or
D) Something else?
If nothing shows up, and it says you're not an admin/op whatever, then you need to add yourself to the ops/controllers. You still need to find out if you have a router. Also externalurl ALWAYS works.
