At the players request I propose this XP system. It's semi-unofficial, but you may be required to adhere to its general point in order to visit certain dungeons or be able to attack certain monsters.
Helping out with a fight against a weak (lvl 1) monster such as a slug gives you 10 XP. If you had a very significant role in the fight, you may gain 15 XP (1.5x the normal amount, BUT BE MODERATE). When in doubt, gain the normal amount. A lvl 2 monster normally gives a player 20XP, a level 3 monster will give a player 40XP, and so on (monster XP reward doubles for each monster level). If the monster's level is unknown, it can be decided AFTER a fight based on how strong it seemed.
There must always be at least 2 players fighting a monster. Players will normally not be able to overpower a monster unless their combined levels are at least double the monster's. If you are not fully prepared/healthy for your level, you count as half your level (rounded up). If you are not fully prepared/healthy for your level, you may gain at most half normal XP. If the monster is more than twice your level, you may gain at most half normal XP.
Level 5 attack magic or other abilities can be substituted for the mighty weapon requirement (example). Level 4 defensive magic/abilities can be substituted for the strong armor requirement (example).
Please update anything involving levels to coincide with this system. Also, relevant sections of the wiki have been updated (see Quality Levels).
Level 1: 0 XP
Receive a starting package at Stone Town.
Find a profession to be Level 1 at (this system does not cover profession levels).
Your crude weapon is all you need to fight effectively at lvl1. Having a weapon less than crude will impede your ability to fight. (gain half XP)
Level 2: 40 XP (0+40 more XP)
Gain a level once you have participated in the defeat of four lvl1 monsters (example). Having a weapon less than normal will impede your ability to fight. (gain half XP) Having a armor less than crude will impede your ability to fight. (gain half XP) Using a weapon or attack you have not trained with will now impede your ability to fight. (gain half XP)
Level 3: 120 XP (40+80 more XP)
Defeating four more lvl2 monsters will give you enough to progress to lvl 3.
Requirements for full XP: strong weapon, normal armor
Level 4: 280XP (120+160 more XP)
Requirements for full XP: greater weapon, strong armor
Level 5: 600XP (280+320 more XP)
Requirements for full XP: mighty weapon, greater armor
Level 6: 1240XP (600+640 more XP)
Requirements for full XP: exceptional weapon, mighty armor
Level 7: 2520XP (1240+1280 more XP)
Requirements for full XP: masterwork weapon, exceptional armor
Level 8: 5080XP (2520+2560 more XP)
Requirements for full XP: enchanted masterwork weapon, masterwork armor
[Edit 1]: Tweaked monster vs player level difference penalty
i think at level 0, your very crude weapon should be fine. Like bump all the requirements down one.
At level one you start with a crude weapon. The distinction between crude and very crude is kind of wierd, so we can use use very crude to mean a crude weapon that has been damaged further or is messed up with stuff like slime. Sound ok? Still, I am fine with changing to what you proposed (would give us a level 9). Get someone who agrees and I'll change it.
By "starting package" do you mean like basic cloths, wooden dagger and like some wood and iron? Or some thing around that? "If the monster is more than twice your level, you may gain at most half normal XP." shouldn't you like get 2x the E.P. if you kill a monster that's 2x larger then your level? As well for the other one, if you kill some thing that's better than you and you are not healthy, shouldn't you get more than half E.P.?.

You don't get any wood or iron at the start (unless you ask someone for a small donation) but you do get 10 cloth, a little food, and a crude weapon yeah. As far as the enemies go, the rule is that you have to fight monsters together, and the XP doesn't get split up finer depending on how many players there are.
If 3 people kill a level 4 monster, they each normally get 80 XP. If 10 people kill a level 4 monster, they all normally get 80 XP. In games where the XP doesn't decrease for more people, there is usually a mechanism to prevent a low level character sitting in on a high level battle to farm XP. This method is to motivate people to fight monsters that are their level. Luckily this is roleplay and players naturally don't concentrate on maxing stats anyway.
Concerning ops:
We really rocketed ops out fast on the old server just to keep griefing at bay, and its not a big deal to not have ops anymore. Ops must follow all the same rules and are given even less leeway than the average player because they need to set a very good example. Players have every freedom to make public dungeons and create the game world that ops do, and everyone must first accumulate the rewards they give.
Everyone has done things that others might not have been content with but went along with for the sake of the game. I'm positive that I, too, have done things that a lot of you might not have wanted to roll with ideally as well. This is true of everyone towards everyone, and I'm appreciative of everyone's effort to make the game fun.
I'll unban you if you provide more details as to what happend.
I was semi-afk when he got banned. FalseID banned him after I noticed T3rm yell AHHH THE GIANT SLUGS ARE ATTACKING. I went over and there were some small holes near the lobster statue and some bigger ugly ones near the outside foundations of a few buildings in stone town. False blamed T3rm of hiding when he went over before I got there.
REGARDING THE WIKI
We're being a bit rude by editing too frequently. Please limit yourself in editing (and use preview). Consolidate your updates into bigger, less frequent ones. I know that the Player profiles didn't belong on the talk page and was planning on moving them to a new page or onto the main one, but I am removing them all together shortly. These profiles will be constantly growing in number, changing, and becoming outdated. They will be viewable temporarily in edit:talk for a day or two, but keep track for yourself or suggest a better place for them.
I say we should update every day when Meteo goes to sleep (Or 12 Am EDT). 1 Update per day sounds good.
Eh, just be moderate out of courtesy rather than necessity. Each person may still do their own thing, but just update all the recent monsters at once for example. Don't withhold information if you find it relevant and useful though.
Oh, and my sleep schedule is rather unreliable. : P
What's new in the game world? Any fun or not-so-fun times? I've got a lot of work to catch up on in school.

We just had the guardian of Checkpoint 1 attack us.
NewFrontier Archives: Part 3 Red:Red:Yellow
Day 21:
I couldn't find the hippies. Everyone just decided to start breeding baby slugs instead. Anyway, the Barrier Lord on the C1 Road is acting up. I can't tell why, and I can't contact anyone who knows.
Day 22:
That Barrier Lord Extended the shield around C1. No one can get in.
Day 23:
We found out why the barrier lord sealed C1. The guardian controlled the barrier lord for a shield. After people got in, she started attacking. Two of my bodyguards died in the attack. These bodyguards are not The Zerg. There's only so many people you can recruit.
Day 24:
Yay for mating seasons. This time, we had to deal with snakes. It was a lot easier than on Day 2. This colony is going to stay for a while...
Day 25:
We managed to clear the flooded temple today. And it turned out to be a plentiful harvest. We have enough bone to make 5 weapons, and the temple led us to ore pockets! The two discovers are now rich.
Day 26:
A new Barrier Lord appeared in the magical ruins. This time, all colonists who tried to pass were eaten. I think these things are made to protect us in a way. There are very hidden secrets down there...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
It is ALWAYS 3:00. Not 3:00 AM or 3:00 PM, just 3:00.
To Meteo2's response to my old comment, I didn't say that if a small amount of players manage to kill a monster and that they should get the same exp each as if a large amount of players manage to kill the same monster, I meant to say if 2 players manage to kill the same monster and they are both wounded or the other reason shouldn't they get the normal exp amount each and not half? But that's not a problem anymore because you or someone changed it. To a side note, I wish I could play again. :sad.gif:
How do you guys handle death usually? I think I was the first to go. Personally I enjoy roleplaying that I start with a completely new character, but that's extreme and I wonder what rule others use.
In-game event!: Drought has spread across much of the land. Food could be hard to grow until enough water can be found again.... (try not to use the edge of the map, and work together).
Sjog: I think that the things you find fun and boring conflict significantly with this server, and will cause more headaches now than they did before. Perhaps if you roleplay at New Alturia for a while and can manage to enjoy yourself there while being a helpful member, then the other ops here can have the discretion to unban you or not and see how it goes.
Eh, my friend ScaredSim said that place was bad and not to go there, I guess I'll go back to TSRP. Nice typing to you again anyway. *Leaves the MineCraftRP building*

Since death happens very often for me, I just run back to spawn to 'revive'. I think it's a just punishment since if you are in a far dungeon, you have to run all the way back to the spawn and then back to the dungeon, but if you're a newb and just near the newb town when you die, you don't have to run that far.
Darkebrz, you handled the argument you had with Saer exceptionally poorly. Indeed it is not required to roleplay a maximum amount of building materials you can carry, but you completely went overboard with the abrasiveness compared to Saer's misunderstanding and escalated it beyond necessity. Please be civil and respectful. A better response would have been to politely disagree and state that it wasn't strictly defined. If you felt Saer was trying to push undo authority on you, you could have also politely stated how you felt.
No apologies required on either side, forget it and move on to continuing the game.
[Edit]: FYI no one complained, I just have eyes in the sky and check the chat log now and then. Feel free to disagree with what I think as well.

No, eating baby slugs is easy.
Snakes are harder. A few people actually died.
