So, I think it's been mentioned that hell will have a 16:1 ratio to the surface world. You walk one block in hell, and you go 16 blocks on the surface, correct? I might/probably have that wrong, but I think it has been mentioned as the official ratio. I'm sure someone will step in to correct as the case may be.
Thinking of that ratio, then I wondered if that is the case, it would be fairly easy to predict what hell would look like for a specific surface world, just replace lava for the water on the surface, and you have a quick and easy hell:
Surface world map:
Reduce by 16, making each 16x16 block one block in hell, then resize back to normal, replace land for whatever rock will be used in hell, and water to lava:
And there you have it, hell.
More than likely, that's not even remotely close to how it will actually work, but it's a thought anyway....

now, explain why there's lava falls in Hell... :tongue.gif:
The ceiling and some landscape could be hell-edition only, and the rest is from the actual map.
Just a possibility, but am more leaning toward the fact hell is random (I think it's mentioned in torus' list right?)
Yeah, if hell is random, there must be some provision if you place a portal on the surface for it not to open in hell in the middle of a lava pool. Maybe there's no direct connection between the hell landscape and the surface world, and placing two portals as close as they can be on the surface would actually make them appear almost anywhere in hell.

I think that the random terrain generator for the Hell dimension uses totally different rules from anything we've seen so far, so we can't really predict anything about what it will do.
Yeah, I just re-read the LONG list on the Minecraft Facts post, I *did* skim it before I made this post, just didn't see the fact that hell is random. Dang, I was kinda hoping to be able to recognize landscape features in hell that corresponded to features on the surface, woulda been kinda cool I think. Oh well.
As for the 31st, re-reading the LONG (did I mention that list is LONG?) post it seems the update will be released before the 31st Sweden time, so, this Saturday night?

eg. a portal in hell will only appear if there is no lava around it for at least 5 block radius. And the gate must have at least 1 face touching air.
...
I JUST CAN'T !!!!
