The first problem is the way you need to get achievements in order. That is completely stupid. You don't need a wooden hoe to make a cake, you don't need diamonds to get to the Nether, and you don't even need a wooden pick to do any of those things. In fact, making a stone pick on the fruits of an explosion rather than a wood pick should be an achievement. So the ordering thing should be dropped.
Statistics are a cool feature, but there should be separate statistics pages for each world as well as a global one.
The biggest, most stupid problem is that the statistics and achievements eventually reset for no reason.
I think we should make a mod with all the old achievements and some new ones. I don't have the first idea on how to build a mod, but I imagine this would be fairly easy to make.
Here are some ideas, feel free to add your own.
*Unnamed
Create a stone pick on a world where you have not created a wooden one.
*The Void
Fall through a hole in the bedrock. (Seriously, it can be done without cheating!)
*Unnamed
Get a record from a creeper.
I'll be back shortly with pictures.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...

You are failing to see the main point of the achievement system. It is supposed to help guide new players. That's why it is in such a order. That's why it requires you to make a wooden pick instead of a wood pick. Because you can't get a stone pick without a wooden pick.
It gives a reference for new players, like a check list "Ok, i did this, now what is next? Oh, i mine obsidian with the diamonds I mined with a iron pick, and use it to make a portal to this weird place called the nether"
This is also why the very first achievements tells you to pres "E" to open your inventory. A new players has no idea how to open their inventory. Without the achievement, they would be forced to look online.
