I am really disappointed with the achievements Notch put on in the 1.5 update. There's hardly any of them and they are all really basic stuff (finished them in like... 10 minutes). I hope he will have the mind to make a super-awesome achievement system (possibly with in-game rewards?) so that I can do achie hunting!
Totally agree, but then again, its mostly a guide for beginners. Also, the coding for it is probably really complex, so more acheivements require a lot more work. But yes. I agree.
Im sure more will be added and they will become increasingly difficult as you progress through them. I highly doubt these are the only ones that will be added, so just have patience. He probably just wanted to get some of them released so we wouldnt have to wait a long time for all of them at once.
More will come soon. They'll hopefully be harder things like, craft a diamond block, or find a Golden Apple.
What would be an awesome achievement would be killing a creeper that has been struck by lightning without using a bow and arrow.
Yeah, it was way too easy. And you get nothing..Disappointment? That's a understatement.
What should you get? A free creeper plushie? ...actually that would be pretty cool. Achievements never really give you anything other than something to work for. Then your reward is simply accomplishment.
so yeah of course the list is small for starters but.... I have to add that I started a new world and did them legit with no inventory hacks and it took me over 11 hours. Actually I still havent flown a pig off a cliff yet.
You would be more disappointed if they weren't out at all would you? Either way people will be disapointed. Obviously notch just wanted to get the basics out, let people see whats up, its silly to assume that he's coming out with more. People just need to wait, I don't understand why everyone believes this was notches total plan with achievements.
And I really hope he never adds any in game rewards to achievements. Even though I myself would like it.
Some people can go achievement crazy. I was actually opposed to achievements and still sort of am. I dont want Minecraft turning into a rush to get all the achievements type of game. I use it to relax and let my creative juices flow. I could ignore the achievement system, yes, but with them there I almost feel obligated to...achieve them.
Im ok with the simple, easy type of achievements like the ones out now, but stuff like "kill 10 super creepers" or "build a redstone circuit with 1,000 redstone and 100 redstone torches" are just stupid. They distract from the game. People going out of their way to built a super long railway purposely to get that 1km achievement is evidence for this. I dont need a tutorial, but I can see the merit in having those simple, easy type achievements for people who do need a tutorial...but not the "im achievement crazed and like doing stupid, meaningless tasks to unlock a pointless achievement" achievements. I hope that made sense.
It is by nature that us humans are drawn to achievements by rewards. Hell, there are studies of it of people who make there own achievements for real life that makes things fun because of the rewards (derp). Although these were a disappointment it is obvious it is for new players who don't have a clue what to do. Press I to check your inventory is something only a noob wouldn't know.

I only just recently began playing and found the achievements to be fun and more difficult than I had imagined. The way the achievements are set up now, it would be very easy to add more as well as rewards in future patches. Even though they seem geared toward newer players they can still be fun and I'm glad they transfer when you begin a new world.

ya, i agree with that, it would be kinda awkward if you were able to get achievements like this though,
achievement get! - walk one step
achievement get! - walk 2 steps
achievement get! - walk 5 steps
achievement get! - walk 10 steps
achievement get! - walk 50 steps
achievement get! - walk 100 steps
achievement get! - walk 1km
achievement get! - walk 5km
achievement get! - walk 10km
achievement get! - walk 100km
but for every thing else, yes
Achievement get! - Achievement get!
Dude that was beautiful.
:tongue.gif:
lol well, thank you :smile.gif:.
Besides, what were you expecting?
16 decent, beginner-friendly-helpful achievements,
or 1000+ crappy achievements that people are suggesting, so it seems like you get one for every single little task you do, and they become a chore?
