While I may not be able to change your view, it is perfectly reasonable to try. Isn't that the whole point of an argument, to prove your point? While it may not be possible to prove an opinion, it is certainly possible to make one's own opinion appear better than another's. It'd be hard to convince people that spending an entire company's money on a single stapler is a good idea. Even if it is an opinion, most would agree that it's the wrong thing to do. I do believe I was wrong in calling you child-like though, I was upset and was unfairly taking it out on you, so I’m sorry about that. Anyways, let’s talk about the actual thread.
You seem to be arguing two different points in the thread, both that you don’t like stats in general, as they take away the feel of minecraft, and that you don’t like the idea of people seeing your stats online. The second argument I can understand, as you want your privacy (though I’m not sure that people would really care that the 953,452nd person to buy minecraft has dug 5,205,255 dirt). The first argument though, is what I was focusing on.
You argued that the stats add a goal to the game that didn’t exist before, but you need to go out of your way to come up with those goals. I see no difference between the player wanting to collect 5 Large chests full of dirt and wanting to have achieved collection 10,000 dirt. Either way the player has to go out of their way to do that. The same argument you are using for stats could be applied to everything.
“I want to fill my entire chest will ____ item, but I don’t want to collect it, so rather than just not collect the item, I want to be able to disable that item.”
Again, though, I do apologise about the name calling, that wasn't supposed to be the point of my post and I shouldn't have said that.

I am going to respond as I read through. So here it goes.
First, yes it is unreasonable to try to change my mind, I made that very clear. It is a futile waste of time.
Second, the point of arguing is to prove a point, but this thread is not about proving anything and I do not want to argue, and I made those both clear to you as well. This thread is about what your opinion is on stats, nothing else. It seems you are going to do everything I asked you not to. I am just waiting to read "Just ignore them" now...
No, just no. There is no way to make one opinion better than another opinion by definition. It is very frustrating that you would try. It is also very rude to do so. We have different opinions, that is fine. Mature people can have different opinions and accept each others, but not agree with them. I am mature enough to do so, you should as well.
Spending a whole companies money on a stapler, yes, that is stupid. Is it an opinion? No. It is a plan, an idea. Idea's and plans can be stupid. Now, if a person's opinion happened to be that buying the stapler was a good idea, then I would find him quite crazy, but I would accept that his opinion was his own. I would certainly not give him all the money to buy a stapler, but I would also not waste my time arguing with him. I do not even want to mention how weak an analogy that is, my idea is rational and easy to do, yours is crazy and stupid, so comparing the two is just a logical fallacy. Fallacious arguments are by definition invalid, so your whole point there not only did not help, but weakened your argument.
Thank you for your apology, I am sorry we have to argue here. I wish you would just stop, but I can also not let you get by with it. It is a problem of mine to argue with people when they argue with me, I am very unable to let it go by and just say "whatever". Sadly, I must go through and pick apart everything that is wrong with someones argument, as I am doing here. I tried very hard to avoid conflict with my OP, in fact I made it in big and red, but somehow people feel the need to argue.
Lastly, I am well aware that my dislike of stats is not felt by everyone, but, let me be clear. YOU CANNOT PROVE THAT MY OPINION IS INCORRECT. I dislike the way they have changed the feel of MineCraft, which they have. Others have agreed with me. With 5 chests of dirt the person just set a personal goal, but with stats they are always there. Every move you make, every step you take, recorded. Now I can go and see my stats whenever wherever, just like everyone else can see mine. Before, I would have to visit my 5 chests, and see how much I had. Once I filled them all I would feel accomplished. Stats are just not the same, they annoy me greatly. Is a simple switch to toggle it too much to ask? 10-15 minutes of Notch's time to satisfy us some 2% of the community who dislike them. I do not feel like it is, perhaps you do, and that is okay. We can agree to disagree, which is what I suggest. No more arguing, let us just agree, that no matter what we say, the other will not agree with our opinion. I have never once tried to make you dislike stats as I do, why do you feel that our opinions must be one and the same? People disagree, it is natural, so let us do so. Now, let's stop this useless bickering, shake hands, and be on our merry way. *Extends hand*
Okay then, while it might not be the most 'fun' way to end an argument, and I do feel awkward not acknowleding your points, you have made it clear you don't want to argue. *Shakes hands*

Wait, what exactly bothers you about the stats? It's not like the stats stand over you're bed at night poking you and giggling, they just keep track of everything you've done. Stats add no goal to the game whatsoever, achievements do, but stats don't.
However, if you think to yourself, "I want to be known for collecting the most dirt of everyone in Minecraft!" then you have just set a goal for yourself to achieve. Which is pretty much what Minecraft is about, setting goals.

Trust me, they bother me. I have a completionism problem, and stats can never be beaten. I just want a toggle... But yes, I know it is weird. Thanks for repeating what everyone already stated I suppose.

So whenever you play OTHER games that have stats you have the same problem?
...Wait a second...

Yes, I have the same problem with every game with stats. And before stats, MinCraft never had any goals or anything of the sort, so there was nothing to complete, so I was free to do whatever and had nothing bother me. Now, I am very bothered...

Just because you flip a switch that turns off the stats doesn't mean they are not there anymore, they are just not being displayed. Hitting a button to turn it off is no different than just ignoring it/pretending it's not there.

No, the switch would make it stop keeping track of them.
I still don't understand why you think stats add a sort of "goal" to a game that you cannot win. That's like saying "I refuse to wear a pedometer while jogging because It cannot be completed."

Hmm, not a bad analogy. Actually, a pedometer would bother me. It would make me set a goal for myself when I could simply stroll about. Sometimes goals are good, and I want the pedometer, but sometimes I don't. No one wants a pedometer permenantly attached to them do they?

So what your saying is, if one day you planned to walk to the park and enjoy yourself, but on your way out the door Notch suddenly straps a pedometer to you that only you can read but is impossible to remove, you would suddenly feel obligated to jog for two hours?
If that is true, and you can't learn to just ignore it, then maybe Notch does need to add an off button.
However, I still feel like this is being made a bigger deal than it actually is.
