just ignore them completely if you don't like them, like i do, i just check them out occasionally to see how im doing at managing my resources and what i can do to improve it.
Okay, obviously I overestimated the intelligence of my audience. Let me make it more clear for you all.
Stop telling me to just ignore the stats! I can't!
there is nothing you can do then. play 1.4_01 for the rest of your life if you cant handle 2 new buttons in your pause menu
In MineCraft, I wouldn't say I hate it or love it, 50/50.I can see the attraction of a statistics page though. In games like Grand Theft Auto,I'd totally want to know how many people I ran over with a car.
I only looked at it once since I updated, pretty easy to ignore.
Well, I can see what you are saying, but the reality is that we all know stats mean nothing. People have accomplished many things before stats were a part of the game and the states cannot reflect that. Really I don't care if someone breaks more blocks than me because I know its isn't a perfect reflection of what we have actually done. it doesn't really matter. As for the achievements at least they are silly and unnecessary, I can ignore them or do them as I please. In the end I don't really care that much one way or another and it is easier to look at my local data than check how many blocks it took me to build something on xstats. I'm sure someone will make a mod to eliminate all of it if you want anyway. So while I'm still fine I hope you are able to overcome your aversion to this and not miss out on all the other fun updates. :biggrin.gif:
No offense, but you sound like my computer science teacher.
Wow, pretty big topic now isn't it. I like the guy who made a list and called me a hypocrit. It always amuses me to see people argue a point that is not the point I made in the first place. Some people may want to read a little closer. Oh, best part of his post other than logical fallicies was the fact he got infuriated and said I was the angry one. Oh, and I am not trolling. Trolling would be too long didn't read your post. Lololol, u mad bro? You = fail.
Anyways, I know I am crazy but they just bother me. I suppose as long as other people can't view my stats I don't care. If others can view them then MineCraft becomes like every other game to me and I will be very very sad. I know people don't agree with me and that is okay. I was just wondering if I was the only one. I see about 5 people agree and the rest disagree. This was never an argument with anybody, stop trying to make it an argument. That is just stupid and yes, ignorant. Ignorant people ignore the actual topic, which was one man's opinion and make their own topic of an argument.
OP has a mental disability that causes him to be unable to ignore stats. Rather than seek psychiatric help for said disability, he chooses to ask the internet how to combat it, and insults anyone who suggests a solution that cannot be done due to his problem.
Mr.GrandTree. As another person who suffers from mental illness, I ask that you please seek help for your problems, instead of trolling the forums (intentionally or not). After I was tested for Tourettes and ADHD, I was able to receive medication to make my life much better. I know our diseases are much different in the way that mine actually gains me friends, but the powers of the psychological and psychiatric studies are not to be doubted.
Also, please refrain from bringing into question people's intelligence when you have consistently proven that it is yours that is lacking. I know that you really aren't stupid, and just mentally unstable, but most other people who browse this forum will think that you actually are dumb enough to think that it is us who have a problem (when in reality they just don't understand).
Are you ****ing kidding me? You're gonna make that much of a big deal over a tiny stats option? "Some of us"? Really? I think it's just you, not anybody else. So go get a ****ing life. Retard

Actually you are wrong. A few people have agreed with me.
As for the post of my mental stability, you are wrong on many levels. Firstly, I have yet to insult anyone's intellect. I have said that by saying ignore them you are being ignorant a few times. Understand that ignorance is not the same as idiocracy, it just means you have ignored what is plainly seen. I have also said it was stupid to do so, not that they themselves are stupid. Now, on the topic of ignorance, you are exemplifying it. You have ignored the fact that I am not trying to start an argument. I dislike stats, you do not feel the same way. That is fine, and I will not ask anything of you. I will not insult you or call you names. I will only ask one question, why do you feel entitled to calling me names and insulting me when I have done nothing to spite you? I only came here with friendly intentions and I am met with such intends hatred and I am confused as to why.
Oh, I forgot. One last question, how is this trolling? I have an opinion and wrote of it with correct grammar with no insults. I asked of others opinions on the same matter. Your definition of trolling obviously differs from mine greatly. Mind sharing with me your definition? Well I fear I have now asked three questions, sorry if it is quiet a lot, but you seem to have no problems typing a long post as previously shown to us by your post above.
First of all: I find lava unsightly and have a compulsion to destroy all lava I encounter, and this really annoys me. Therefore, since I paid for this game, Notch is required to include an option to remove lava.
Second of all: How is not looking at the Stats tab any different from an option to turn stats off? Even if there were an option to turn stats off, you could always turn them back on again. What is it that makes you able to resist the "turn stats on" button but makes you compelled to click the "view statistics" button?
Im with you. I don't like stats or achievements, that are totally useless and it's just the thing to do in games these days. What you create in minecraft and what goals you set for yourself should be the real achievements. Just another time waster and ePeen boost.
On a side note, every online game i've ever played eventually gets ruined slowly by patches. I can already feel it.
Well, I see the point of your lava post but yet again, that is what is known as a weak analogy. I used one with my car rattling analogy, and I am aware of that. Like yours, it did get the point across. Now, if you truelly hate lava there is actually a way to mid your minecraft and turn all lava into air in every one of your chunks. I want a way to turn off stats as you can "turn off" your lava. Now, stats can be ignored, and I am managing to do so. If Notch; however, makes stats visable by others then I have a problem. Then they are out there for everyone, and like a blemish, while I may ignore it, I know that others may be viewing it. That is a strong analogy, because a blemish can be not only physical, but an idea in that it is a visabke flaw. My stats are my visable flaw. All I am asking for is some "Proactive" for my blemishes. Now, can you not agree that asking for a way to turn of stats for those who want it is a very reasonable suggestion, considering we did buy this game mind you.
Thanks for the offer, but I like the acheivements. I do not like the stats. I can ignore them myself, I just don't like the idea of others viewing them.
You can use a mod to turn all of your statistics up to 999999 or something similarly high. Then nobody can see your actual statistics, so there is no blemish, and doing that is MUCH easier than removing every block of lava.
You do realise that no matter how hard you try, no matter how long you spend trying and no matter what you do to change it, there WILL always be someone out there that will be more obsessed then you at being the "best" of minecraft and will most likely have several hundred more, ummm, stat points? then you and so your fears of other people judging you based on your stats are completely irrational.
Also as the poster 'above' me points out, Even if you somehow DO become the "best", you will continually be shown-up by people that have modified their game to raise their stats.
Since I have run out of things to say at this moment i'll just leave now.
I think we're missing the point of the OP. He wants an option to make stats private so they couldn't be shared over the internet in later versions.
And if that's all the OP is saying, then the OP is complaining that there's no option to turn off a feature that doesn't exist yet (why should an off button be installed before the feature itself), and this topic is entirely pointless.
I never look at the stats.
One day, I will look at them, be disappoint, then remember I have been playing since alpha 1.2.6, and add about 9001 to every statistic there, including km traveled.
Then give myself a pat on the back, continue on my merry way, and not look at my stats again for another few years or so.

Actually, that's the best mental image ever. A dying, drowning man stuffing his face from a massive wall of cake, and carving out a monstrous underwater cake picture. I'd pay to watch that irl.

If I may conjecture, it seems like the OP is a completionist. Now, this isn't a bad thing by any means.
Well, that's not true. It's a bad thing when it comes to undirectional sandbox games.
Now, a completionist is somebody who strives to "do everything" in a game. (finish it 100%) again, not a bad thing. Before acheivements/stats, there was no way to really rate "completion" so the game was a carefree environment where they could throw off the shackles of their OCD completionism.
however, with the addition of acheivements and stats... that changes. Now there are values they can toggle by performing certain tasks. And by god they are going to toggle every damn last one of them. And now there are numbers relating to various other actions! We must grind these for no reason- that's definitely obsessive. I mean, nobody makes an effort to increase how much disk space they use. it's just informational. That's the way I think of the stats.
Personally I'd prefer if the stats were on a per-world or per-server basis, or at least had per-world/server stats as well as the accumulated totals.

Heheh, complete disregard to what the OP said.
I for one see no problem with them, but I think an option to disable them would be nice too.
