If I may conjecture, it seems like the OP is a completionist. Now, this isn't a bad thing by any means.
Well, that's not true. It's a bad thing when it comes to undirectional sandbox games.
Now, a completionist is somebody who strives to "do everything" in a game. (finish it 100%) again, not a bad thing. Before acheivements/stats, there was no way to really rate "completion" so the game was a carefree environment where they could throw off the shackles of their OCD completionism.
however, with the addition of acheivements and stats... that changes. Now there are values they can toggle by performing certain tasks. And by god they are going to toggle every damn last one of them. And now there are numbers relating to various other actions! We must grind these for no reason- that's definitely obsessive. I mean, nobody makes an effort to increase how much disk space they use. it's just informational. That's the way I think of the stats.
Personally I'd prefer if the stats were on a per-world or per-server basis, or at least had per-world/
server stats as well as the accumulated totals.
Hmm, that is exactly right. Thanks for not just calling me crazy and actually analyzing it a bit further. It is not that I want to be the best, I just like to complete the game. Now I can't, ever. It used to be I did not have to. I actually enjoyed the achievements because I finished then, but stats just bother me because I cannot complete them. Now, I agree whole-heartedly on per-world stats. I have a no-death world I worked tirelessly on and since I died on another world I play around on I can no longer prove for certain that I never died on my world... It is a bummer.
I am a java coder myself actually, though I am no expert by any means, and I know that adding options to disable other options is very easy.
So if you know that it's very easy, it kinda infers that you can do it, so why don't you just disable them yourself, instead of complaining, knowing that you're going to be flamed badly..
Well, firstly I would need the source files, because I cannot code directly into the class files. Secondly, though I can code Java and I am aware of how easy it would be to make an off switch, I would need to know the location of said coding and what all it affects, which would take a lot of reading. Mind you Notch already knows all of these things and can easily code them. I can ask you a similar question, why would you ask such a question when you do not know what you are talking about?
Fair enough, but you have to press a button to access the stats anyway.
If you don't want to be 'distracted' by those stats, just don't click the button that allows you to access them. They're basically 'disabled' that way anyway, if you're never looking at them. It's not like they're ever-present in the corner of your screen or something.
It's like asking for the F3 option to be removed because you don't want the option to see where mobs are and see stats like your current co-ordinates and framerate because it's 'distracting', even though you need never use the option.
As I have said many times now, I can ignore them. It is the fact other people can see them that bothers me.
Okay, think for just a moment. I used to have nothing to complete in this game, there was no goal, no challenge. I could do whatever I wanted to do. I had completed the game, I was content. I prefered it that way. I am asking for an option to disable it, and asking if others feel the same. I am not asking for everyone to tell me I am crazy because I have an opinion, likes, and dislikes. I get along fine in society and my mental status is just fine, so stop continuing on about that and let's focus on the topic shall we? You obviously do not want an option to turn stats off, and that is just fine.
You said that the latest upadates are ruining the game. I dissagree i love the new updates, it makes me come out of my shell. I would useally be in a hole in the ground and be board stiff because, well befor now what diffrance was it to stay in a hole or be outside. In a hole there was no monsters no worries... but no ecitement. I had a hard time trying to find something to do. achevements are nice they will give me an option to do some fun things. They are sime goals i can fallow or ignore it wont change any thing. And thats what i like. Stats... Well i have no use for them so i never evan open the tab up. I ignore it , what does it change? Nothing. I like to fallow thee goals for the fun of seeing acevement acheved. I fallow it, what diffrance does it change? Nothing. Its just what you want not a force type thing. Un likw RPG's it is a free thing to chose to do. And it is not at all tempting to do. Just pretend its not there.

Creepers want hugs, zombies want hugs, so many hugs you may just die.
are you afraid to show how much you mine something specific?
or perhaps you don't wanna let yourself know how much minecraft you actually play
in either case, who cares. stats are cool and should not be removed. no matter what reason you can give me, iam not gonna change my mind on this.
I never tried to change your mind, and you have ignored the OP. I want an OPTION to remove them. I don't want to take them away, I take others into consideration, which is something you should try. See, some people like stats, and that is fine, I would love for them to enjoy them. I, on the other hand, do not, and I would like to have an option for me, and others like me, to remove them from our games.
@EpicFishFingers: Thank you for discussing with rationality, something others should look into. I understand, appreciate and respect your opinions and ideas.
@ShipMaster: I like the achievements too, I dislike the stats. Let's stay more on topic shall we?
Easy way to disable stats: Pretend they aren't there. It's not challenging because unlike a ding in your car, it doesn't do a thing to you at all. Your analogy about wanting to "fix" it is flawed as well because many people do not see stats as a thing to be fixed, they see it as an interesting way of calculating how much they have done in their Minecraft worlds.

I have already mentioned that my analogy was weak, but it did get a basic point across. Now, I shall say this once more. I can ignore the stats myself, what I cannot ignore is that others can view my stats. If it was personal to me that would be one thing but...
I would just get all the acheivements as fast as possible, so you dont have to worry about it. As for stats, i thought they were just meaningless numbers.

Why are achievements even being mentioned here? Where in the OP do I mention them?

Mod edit: Make your point without slinging insults at others.
I see your point, they don't bother me personally, but if it bothers you that much, and you code java, you could always remove it. Unless it's more advanced than I would expect.
I don't under stand why you do not like them, If you don't like them then just don't pay attention. It is not that big of a deal. I for one like the stats, they give me something to do then just mine for hours on end. Its more of a side thing really.
All right, so. I have read through the entire topic, and I have decided, during that time, on several points which I feel need to be made.
First, to many of the posters in this thread; stop trolling the OP. You do nothing but insult your own intelligence, and it is very difficult to take even your opinion seriously when it is stated in this manner.
Second, to Mr. Grandtree; you say that you have reached the point where, contrary to the original post, you can ignore your personal statistics. I would request that, for the benefit of many, yourself included, you update said original post to reflect your new feelings on the matter. Your concern now appears to reside mostly with a fear of others learning your statistics and judging you by them. If your progress (for simplicity of typing) ever becomes public, then yes, you will be judged. However, there is currently nothing to say that, when and if such a feature is ever released, there will not be an option to hide one's own progress from the hungry eye of the internet's many vulturous fools, feeding on the agony of the weak; which you, sir, are obviously not, and I commend you for that. Good show, Grandtree. Good show.

This is very true, and I thank you for your post. It is refreshing to see some sort of intellect and originality used on this topic. I suppose the OP has been slightly outdated now. I shall be updating. As for the two posters above you I will not even give them the time of a response which has been clearly made to every other poster who has said pretty much the exact same thing. Look up at the last, oh I would say 10 posts, and you will get your answer. Now please, for the sake of simplicity, briefly check to see if I have answered your question already before posting it. Perhaps the OP should cover that more thoroughly but similarly, I should not have to spoon feed you all. You should be able to take an extra minute to read.

If you read the OP, why make such a clearly contradicting post. At least put effort into your idiocracy.
