So I started an Island-playthrough and the first island-generated map I came across was snowing.
Ah, great!
So I proceeded to chop up the ONE tree on my island (seriously, it's small here) and I started making my shovel. As I went digging, I realized that I didn't have enough materials to make a sufficient house, so I improvised!
It was already dark by the time I started. I turned my volume up so I could hear those stupid creepers while I dug DOWN (using the sand walls instead of cobblestone or wood) but I was shocked to not encounter a single creature all night.
Now it's probably day 10 or 11 in the game and I still haven't encountered anything other than the occasional pig and chicken. I'll be expanding to neighboring islands soon, but I'm curious if they'll be as deserted as my current small one ._.
And the difficulty is on hard, not peaceful :tongue.gif:
If ur on a small island, then they probably don't spawn becuase ur there.
So I'll run into threats as I wander off to islands that I'm not around all the time?
This almost makes it too easy to fortify and such >.> Sucks they aren't smart enough to swim over.
They won't spawn in your line of sight or in a certain number of spaces around you, imagine it like this.
Monsters will spawn in the red, but not in the blue, and you are facing downwards. So your island seems to be only just the size of the blue area.
At least, I think that's how it works.
Seems rightish to me... I've only actually ever seen one mob spawn, and that seemed to be when my minecart whipped around a corner just as it was popping.

So yeah, they won't be spawning there.
Ah well, thanks for the help guys :biggrin.gif:
Not true. Testing has shown that difficulty doesn't change spawn rate.
