NEPHEW = No-Effort Personal Hydrated Elevator of Water. It's a system that has water effectively flowing uphill in order to carry you upwards without any effort required on your part. It's slow and picky with how it's setup, but it's awesome none-the-less. Makes for great lazy river rides.
Trget was kind enough to film the ride upwards for me.
Warning: Video is incredibly boring. :smile.gif:
And unfortunately he doesn't look out the window(s) at the end, but after 4 minutes coasting upwards, you're near cloud-level at that point. 4;24 in the video gives you an okay glimpse of how high off the ground you get.
Anywho: Just wanted to share this. I think/hope/figure I'm the first person to work out a way to do this, if not, congrats to those before me. If people are looking to install one of these on their server, I could probably do a quick tutorial thing (just a series of pictures). If anyone wants to come check it out in-game: wondercraft.zapto.org

Wondercraft SMP! wondercraft.ca! All are welcome.
Dedicated VPS, 30 slots, 24/7 uptime and a great community!
Runs Runecraft, Llama, hMod and many plugins.
Minimum materials required to build one on flat ground:
~ 1 half step.
~ 1 ladder.
~ 2 water source blocks.
~ 13 dirt (or whatever material you use to build the thing)
Half-step can be substituted for wooden or cobble stairs.
Ladder can be substituted for a sign or any other item that will stop water but not you.
When your player collides with the half-step they MUST be up against the inner wall of the corner. You can force this by adding additional corners to the 'track' to bump them the right way.
The uphill water MUST be flowing either north-east or north-west. South will do nothing.
The 5-block right angle setup is a must (afaik). A zig-zag will not work, it has to be like it is in the picture.
You can link them together like so: Click for pic.
Furthermore you can link them in the most space efficient pattern like I have in the video, just alternating between NE and NW linking the 5-block-right-angle setup thing.
Hope that helps. It's about all the info I can give you that will be helpful. The rest can be figured out with a bit of trial and error.

The original plan was to make the thread title "check out my NEPHEW" but I decided that was far too tasteless for even my standards. :3

Thanks guys. I need to find a way to make items flow up this now... Would be great if a mob farmer would feed into a stream and come right up to your house. :3

I believe that would draw a different crowd.
Nothing more to say, even after visiting your server yesterday.
