So this next poll trying to learn and it's great information for us server owners to get ideas and feedback from others.
Anyways this poll is would you be willing to sign up at the site and post a small request to join and why. Or do you only like servers where you get access right away?
Check our my other poll: What do you like RP server or just a build server with rules viewtopic.php?f=1012&t=29061
I have found that anything on the internet that requires no effort to join is usually not worth joining as it tends to be overrun with people who can't even grasp simple ideas like the fact that the word "you" also contains a y and an o.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
I hope people don't mind applying. It's really the only way to curb the number of griefers, currently. I update my whitelist at least 3 times a day, so the wait for access is less than 24 hours.
i like the idea of a public server so my things are seen, but i applied and got into a really nice private, and its also really nice to have a server where everything looks good because of building code, it give a real sense of wonderment wlaking though the place.
I think, until Notch natively supports guests not being allowed to build, I would not want to apply to a server "blind" as it were. Just going by pictures and the admins description on the forum doesn't Really give you the sense of what a servers "personality" is like. Are the people on it the kind of people I will get along with, that sort of thing.
The only thing you can Really learn from the forum server ads is what the server looks like and what the intended rules are.
If i could preview servers without being able to change things (eliminating the always annoying kicked-because-of paranoid-ops) then i think I would vote for application first.
Granted the trial "guest" period would be pretty boring while I couldn't do anything except walk around...

Monkey Mines is a small 18+ Whitelisted Realms server that also allows families. We're currently looking for new players if they're not jerks.
It seems like the only way to really minimize griefing is to run a private server and allow only 2-3 every few days or so. That way, unless the griefers are really dedicated, you can see which ones are actually building stuff and contributing to the servers (and therefore probably not griefers) and which ones are griefing or just biding their time until their griefing would be harder to pinpoint. Any server that is public or allows too many new people at once into their server will see griefing.
So, I choose the first option, but only on the condition that only a few people are let in at a time. I wouldn't mind waiting in line, even upwards of a few weeks, if it meant the griefing would be minimized to nearly nothing.
