i just started a new world, and within about 6 nights, i have 32 [>>-i>] , 102 ]" title="-<->" /> , and 6 . how? as of the h ween undate, the nightly mob spawn rates are insane. were not sure if its a bug or if notch intentionally upped the enemies, but what i am sure of is that i obtained a decent amount of loot by setting up traps. TRAPS TRAPS TRAPS everywhere. at night, run out into the open darkness with nothing and get like 10 or so enemies to follow you. i suggest leading them into a cactus/water trap, since its easiest to make and requires almost no resources. seriously, not only is it fun, but its also profitable. get your tnt and arrows while you can, because this absurd mob clusterf**k might be fixed.
I love the fact that the mobs are more abundant, its more of the challenge to survive. Before the update I was getting a bit bored of of how easy it was the just run around around in complete darkness. Definitely a plus in my book.
Just more incentive to play on Peaceful while I build now. Before, I could build and manage the enemies at the same time. Now, I honestly just can't be bothered.
Could totally do without the crap ton more animal mobs though. Won't shut the heck up, and I have no use for what any of them provide. Gah!
I was building a new structure for my next portal room and had dug out a trench around it, before i was half done with the trench it was full of animals, i then continued to fill it with water and then work with the inside of my building. In the end i counted over 40 animals (lost count cause they were jumping in the water) and it would lag whenever i changed from inside to outside the building, and yeah the noise was annoyingggg!!!
On the one hand, I hope it gets fixed just because OH MY GOD
On the other hand, it's so much fun, I hope mob frequency in the overworld is given its own biome. Kind of like how in Dwarf Fortress there are peaceful, neutral, evil, and terrifying locales - properties which exist independent of the climate itself (for the most part).
The spawning is a bit out of whack. I had creepers coming at me the first day, before the first night, very close to my spawn (first one encountered just after I chopped down my 2nd tree.)
This is how I think it should/could be.
I have a system to reflect difficulty. The number of icons reflect the number of mob you would expect to deal with at any given time.
So the difficulty not only would reflect your health, but also the mob.

I've got mixed views on this, because I think this happened to me too. Forest biomes shade some areas signifcantly enuogh that enemies can spawn there, which I think is great cause it gives forests a more spooky feel, kinda like real life. Although, this can be annoying.
It wasn't a forest biome though, trees where there, but not very dense. The creeper just kind of spawned daytime. One spawned on a small hill by an ocean with one tree and the other came hopping from the top of the mountain. If trees are causing it, a single tree provides enough shade for creepers to spawn.

Then I died and lost it all to the bug

My humble LPs can be found here.
I lol'd
I think all this mob spawn overkill has to do with the new biomes structure. That might also be why some experience it more severely than others.
