I have compiled a list of things that concern what not to do if you have braces. The following knowledge is derived from common logic, other people's experience, and personal experience. Enjoy. (People who've had braces, or currently do, will understand what I am saying more than people who were born with perfect teeth.)
1. Do not eat frozen cookie dough. (It can dislodge one of your wires)
2. Do not eat a Jelly Belly with a nut. (They can break or warp your wire)
3. Do not get red bands. (People will think that your mouth is bleeding )
4. Do not chew gum. (It will pull up the caps on your molars)
5. Do not get caps. (They cause a gap between you teeth)
6. Do not wear your corrective rubber bands while you eat. (They generally change to a red color and could possibly snap causing unwanted pain)
7. Do not eat Star Bursts. (If eaten wrong, they can mess up your orthodontic work)
8. Do not take string a bind your braces together. (It's just a stupid idea :dry.gif: )
9. Do not offend anyone who has a history of slapping people when they are angry. (Nuff said)
10. Do not play with big, energetic dogs. (They just love to hit their heads against your face)
11. Do not play any sports, example: wrestling. (One hit in the mouth will cause you a world of pain)
12. Do not get into any fist fights. (Means more pain :sad.gif: )
13. Do not try to adjust your braces because you want to save money. (Do I need to explain this one :huh.gif: )
14. Do not get a taser and shock yourself. (Did you forget you have metal in your mouth :huh.gif: )
15. Do not play Wii tennis next to anyone. (Some people have a killer back hand)
16. Do not get the Karate Kid mad. (Well, forget that one, he's really old :wink.gif: )
17. Do not use a fork as dental floss. (It no no work :mellow.gif: )
18. Do not use your braces as a second pair of teeth. (They don't grip as well)
19. Do not use your braces as a cheese grater. (Uh, you should come up with a solution yourself :tongue.gif: )
20. Do not perform open heart surgery on yourself. (Now isn't that a good tip)
21. Do not eat apples whole. (It broke mattymcg's braces)
22. Do not drink a lot of soda. (It melted Aureliette braces cement and broke his/her braces off)
Well, I hope you enjoyed reading this. Till my next thread, goodbye.
however a lot of the things they said are just plain stupid
i had braces for like 4 or 5 years majority of this didn't even cross my mind
also an add to the list
don't eat apples it broke my brace
I have a slight overbite; I don't believe I need braces?
My dentist says that it will not affect me anyway.
I don't know much about the study of teeth.
Just a slight overbite? You wouldn't need braces. Get Invisalign. It's basically a retainer, but you get new ones every 2 weeks (I believe) to slowly shift your teeth. My little brother has them and I had braces.
I had to have braces for a couple years because I had an overbite and vampire fangs. One thing that my orthodontist said not to do that's not on your list is to not drink soda because it can dissolve the "cement" that holds your braces to your teeth. I didn't listen to them, and my braces broke away from two of my teeth.

How much soda did you drink? I broke pretty much every rule when I had to make a decision, other than eating an apple whole. (since that would be difficult, even if I ignore the rule)

Do I really need to shift my teeth though because of a slight overbite? Is it going to cause some sort of illness in the future?

Gum, popcorn, soda, candy, etc...
Not that much, but I guess it was just enough to weaken the cement (or whatever it is that they use) so that they broke while I was using a toothpick.
You missed out on something special, let me tell you.i remember getting jewelry wire and knotting it around the wires so my mouth was clamped shut. 'THE' most claustrophobic feeling ever.
I went to an orthodonist and he said that my teeth are fine. They're straight, and I don't have an overbite or underbite, but because of a mutation, I'm missing some teeth on one side (I don't have gaps, I just have more teeth on one side than on the other, so I have a gap between my front teeth). He said it'd be less like "braces" and more like "dental reconstruction". Adding all the false teeth, capping the ones that are too small, etc.
He even said outright that it'd be completely cosmetic; there's nothing wrong with my bite, and unless you look closely and count my teeth (or if you're a dental professional), you can't even see the difference.
My mom still begged me for years to get braces. It was one of those "all the parents/kids are doing it" kind of things.
I didn't get them, and my teeth are fine. Besides, I like my gap ^-^

Well, I did it just for fun. :smile.gif:
It mostly resulted in cut-up cheeks.
Steam: RobotDeathParty
Ouch, I use to cut-up my cheeks too. It was never fun.
My dentist says that it will not affect me anyway.

Well, the over bite could develope into a bigger over bite over time. You should look into it.

You guys hate me now, don't you?
I'm sorry...
