I'm a physics student. I've been thinking about the universe, how it works, and what it means my entire life. The big bang is an idea I always come back to, and it always bothered me.
How could something be born of nothing?
I've never been a religious person. The idea of god bothers me for the exact same reason the big bang bothers me- where did god come from?
As I grow older though (I'm 24) I'm finding it's really hard to be human without having faith in something. I've developed some ideas about love, and the soul, that I have faith in.
A short time ago I decided to have faith in this, too: that the multiverse always has been, and always will be. The more I try to wrap my mind around that idea the more it makes sense to me. It's something that I'm going to base my frame of thinking on.
What do you guys think about the universe/multiverse? Do you think there's another available poll option?
I think life is unexplainable, and one should live it the way they see fit, without harming the the way other people see fit. Mutual existence.
Edit: Also, the idea of god is confusing. Its crazy to think that we all were transformed out of nothing, but its also hard to think that god made us, because where did god come from? My religion is man kind.
Multi-verse is plausible, But The theory of the multi-verse contradicts it self. if there is a universe for every single different event, Even if one universe is exactly the same except for a guy died at a different time's, what happens when their is a universe in which the multi-verse never existed.

I simply recognize that at this moment and time I do not know and personally do not have the logical evidence to reinforce any assertion of fact into regards of this matter. In short, I just don't know, and although it'd really make my day to know where everything came from, I can only recognize at this point in time that reality is.
hahaha, well- it IS an internationally visited forum. I don't know how many hits these off-topic forums get per day, but I bet it's a lot. I was inspired to make this poll after learning some things from an actual intelligent discussion in one of these politics threads.
@steks, I respectfully disagree. I'm a very content person precisely because I believe the universe we exist in is a real, but magical place. That you think contemplating one's existence is "torture" is really sad, considering that's exactly what makes us human.
OT:Honestly, its pointless thinking about this, we will probably never know the answer and its best not to torture yourself with these questions.
It's the goal of science to find out answers like these, or frustrate itself to death. Who knows, one day this may be common knowledge and very understandable, similar to how it was once claimed in ancient times that the universe is infinite because it being finite makes no sense since there would have to be boundaries at the edge, whereas today we have several completely plausible models of having a finite universe with no boundaries. What's claimed "impossible" or "impossible to know" is often done so because the people of the time have little idea the ramifications of the subject they're discussing.
...Really? I just like to think of everything as a small bit of something larger untill the cycle repeats and we're back where we are right now. Plus I like to think of alternate dimensionns instead of a bunch of multiverses and this is all one giant simulation that will repeat itself over and over (the big bang) untill the results are favorable... but I'm not a Physics expert nor am I very good with Quantum Physics... so I don't have much of a point.
Edit: Oh! and as the test subjects we are not allowed the privledge of knowing the identity of the person in-charge of the tests.

Why is this on THIS forums?
This is off-topic dumbass.

Are you more comfortable with the idea that there was no beginning at all? Because those are really the only two options.

Let's all get along... or something optimistic like that.
