I used to watch that show all the time. I know they still air some episodes on NickToons (which I don't have anyway), but I just don't get why that show was cancelled. Gir is like one of the best characters in anything in the history of all time ever.
You know that one episode where the doctor was going to inspect Zim, but he didnt have any human organs so he took organs from humans, put them into himself, and replaced their organs with animal organs?
Yea, well apparently, that stuff is illegal in real life... So they cancelled Invader Zim.
Not why it was cancelled.

Like the post above, it was canceled. The show was targeted for older children, like 10-14 years of age. Not very many people watched it, and those who did were younger kids. I also think it got canceled because it scared the younger viewers of Nickelodeon, but I'm not for sure. You could call that BS.

I live on a Planet Called Omicron Persei 8, where I am constantly battling sexual endeavors with the alien race that lives here.
Nickelodeon cancelled the show citing low ratings, over-budget production and lack of interest in continuation of the series.

Honestly, I think Invader Zim could have done better if it was on a more adult network, like Comedy Central, or maybe on Adult Swim, where it wouldn't need to be censored. I guess in terms of the dreary look and feel of the whole cartoon, you could call it a more adulterated Billy & Mandy.

I agree, it was a very funny show. But the odd thing about it is, if Nick thought it was so bad, why did they start showing re-runs?
Invader Zim was CENSORED O.o
A nick show was CENSORED
Wow it must've been pretty hardcore with blood and guts and everything. I don't even think I was born when the show started. Born 1998.

You know there are multiple forms of censorship right? We're not talking about finished episodes with censorship bars in them. Basically the writers wrote the episodes and Nickelodeon would return them saying "This needs to change, remove that, make this less creepy..." whatever. That's censorship that the audience doesn't usually notice because it isn't called to their attention.
But, as far as the creator of the show is concerned, the version of Invader Zim we all know isn't the version in his head. Probably very similar but also much darker.

Yea, if given the chance, I could easily see Invader Zim becoming TV-MA, but of course since Nick had the rights that wouldn't be "acceptable".
I see Invader Zim being the Tim Burton creation of cartoons. I at least hope they make one similar to it with a character like Gir.
Just barely though.

That isn't why it was canceled. Although Nickelodeon did censor the show a lot.
That's what I've been told. It seemed reasonable so I didn't bother to research it.
Am now looking for what they have censored...
