I am a newcomer to Minecon 2013 this year. I am reallllllyyy excited, but i dont know what I should bring. Should I bring a laptop, headphones, etc. or should i just bring clothes and hope the convention has it all?
If your flying you can't bring food so be prepared with some money. I would reccomend to bring a phone and laptop just so if you get bored. Personally I would bring something cool like a shirt of a cardboard sword since you're probably going to meet some famous youtubers and you should get a signiture. Hope this helps and have a fun time.
obviously you're limited if you are flying. but with any convention (especially one based around a video game) I suggest these things (in order of importance)
tickets: don't forget them.
Water: you will be walking allot
Food: eating out in Orlando is quite expensive
spending money: going to the con is just an experience! pick up something to help remember.
computer: minecon gets over at rather early. knowing us gamers we are not used to such an early bedtime.
camera: its fantastic to take pictures of YouTubers and mojang. and if you have the patience you can make a YouTube coverage of minecon.
friends! its no fun to go alone DX
emergency money: stashing some emergency money hidden in your car Is a good idea, Orlando is not the safest place it would suck to be robbed and stranded. (or maybe it wouldn't? you could come chill with me an hour away!)
costume!! wear something awesome, its always lots of fun! (even in random public places)
notebook and pens: autographs! I'm personally bringing my sword to get signed.
Clothes: (optional)
self confidence: bring your balls. meeting new people is by far the best part of being in any type of convention. making sure you're confident will make you some cool new friends and have a blast. remember we are all just about as weird as you so don't be shy :3!
extra blankets/pillows: I cant sleep without my hugging pillow and an extra blanket. hotel rooms can be quite cold.
STUFF TO LEAVE AT HOME
shyness
fear
anxiety
stress
have a blast and I hope to see all you wonderful people there!

Really? everyone keeps telling me its a fairly safe place, since it's a huge Tourist area... now of course that would make it a target, but I'd never particularly heard that it was a crime zone..
My main items I would bring would be a bag/backpack, hydration bag/water(not paying outrageous prices for bottled water), hand sanitizer(7,500+ people touching different surfaces like door handles... nuff said!) , credit card/cash, camera/phone with extra battery, and some snacks/food.

downtown Orlando (where the OCCC is) has one of the highest crime rates in Florida. mostly because we don't have very many big cities. its pretty much Miami, Orlando, and Jacksonville.

I think every big city has it's fair share of crime. Just be aware of your surroundings, stay and travel around heavily public areas, try to avoid sketchy looking places, limit outings at night, secure your belongings, etc etc... meet some new people and become friends and look after each other. I'm sure most if not all will have a great and safe trip.

Orlando is not that bad, I am native Floridian (plus some German I guess due to my Air Force time in Germany +plus lived on Military Base in early life). It's not bad when you are in the right area
Hey we be all instant friends and walk with a 7500 People MOB thru Orlando..... Please who wanna mess with us????
I would say-
-Camera
-Snacks for when you're walking around
-A bit of money, for souvenirs, plus food and all that good stuff
-A sharpee, so if you see your favorite Youtuber, you can get his/her autograph
-If you play on a server, see if anyone on the server is going, maybe you can meet up with them!
-Your ticket(Kinda-sorta-important!!)
That's all I can think of now.
Have fun at Minecon!!
