What kind of practical use could that have? Sending a bomb down your enemy's rails in faction servers could be fun though, assuming detector rails set them off.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
I suspect the feature is more generic. That is, what do the TNT and the spawner both have in common?
They are both blocks.
So, perhaps, the feature involves allowing any block- or at least, some much larger set of blocks than those two- to be in a minecart.
The question is the interface and how this is done. For example will this be something we can use on our own in a survival world- say right-click an empty chest, or perhaps craft it like the storage cart. Or, is this feature something designed for map editors, by editing the tag data of the cart entity?
Either way, I still think it's more generic. Consider this:
The Mob Spawner is spawning mobs even though it's in the cart. This implies that the block inside the cart performs the same thing it "normally" would. Some interesting possibilities:
-Enderchest carts
-Redstone block carts. You can detect carts with detector rails, of course, but a redstone block cart could be used as a sentinel to indicate something special, or to save wiring space.
-Dispenser carts. Imagine having a dispenser cart moving back and forth on a track, shooting arrows, or potions, or what have you.
-Hopper carts. I repeat. HOPPER CARTS. The mind boggles at the possibilities if it is truly as generic as I fantasize here.
-A better furnace minecart.
-Piston Minecart (Ok, I don't know how that would work)
-glowstone cart (could mesh in with the new rendering engine...)
-Brewing Stand Carts (hey why not)
I'm sure there are some interesting blocks I've missed.

With a mob farm getting tnt is a snap. If you also have an iron golem farm getting the iron is a snap (Both of which I have)
I've wanted this for a really long time. Anyone that's played Fallout 2 remembers the bomb rail at the military base.
I'm sure this though will be done off a timer instead of when it smacks into a wall or player/mob it auto goes off. Making it kind of requiremore work then it would need for the player. And harder to set a trap for it, instead of just LULZ "Hey guys, I set a bomb cart down the rail system. Someone is soooo get pranked"
"-Dispenser carts. Imagine having a dispenser cart moving back and forth on a track, shooting arrows, or potions, or what have you."
haha wow I kind of called it there, didn't I? Though I was thinking of them being sideways. I guess this doesn't preclude their orientation being changable, like item frame contents.
If it is just holding a single block type the question is, Can it stack to 64?
As if its carrying 1 tnt and runs over another tnt item or a hopper empties a tnt into it. Could it be used as a sorting system basically?
If it were to work like a chest, except it only carries stacks of that one item.
But, no its likely just 1 item. would be interesting though if you had hoppers that just empty everything on tracks and you have say 5 carts each carrying a different item and they grab that one item each of them has up on an infinite loop
It would be awesome, if you could build on those blocks in the minecarts.
Moving house on the rails.
an actual RV on Minecaft!!! this would be amazing!!!!Minecraft train circus!!! silly players and redstone experts going cross country on a circus trailer train to show there knowledge of redstone to everyone on a faction server!
So what I want to know is how/if we can trigger the block in the cart?
A dispenser in a cart doesn't do us much good without a way to trigger it.
I'm wondering the same thing. While the practical applications might be few, I'm sure there are some clever people who will find some if there is a way to power them as they pass on the rail. For example igniting the tnt or dispensing an object as it passes the trigger.

Yea I think a trigger rail would probably make the most sense.
Course the other thing we need in terms of railcarts is just simply a way to see the contents of any containers similar to how we can now see how full chests are. I'd love to be able to just loop a dispenser till it's empty and then send it to a hopper for a refill.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Speaking of which, has anyone noticed a weird glitch where the blocks around the detector rail keep propagating charge even after the minecart has passed? You can place new redstone lamps on the blocks and have them be powered, or even remove the detector rail and the blocks will keep propagating charge. The only way to get them to stop is to destroy the blocks.
i see train battles if there is a way to connect these, as minecarts are destroyed by pprojectiles, furnace minecarts as engines, normal for entity transport(players, mobs) , dispensers for turrets, etc
Oh, man! Screw the TNT, we got movable spawners!

You're probably right

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Well, there sure are a lot of detector rails in those screenshots...
They are being used to power the rails.

Yeah, other people in the locked thread said this. Myabe it only applies to Tile Entities, but I don't think TNT is a tile entity...
