What?
Does that mean that just by riding a different mob, you won't be bored; even if the experience is, like, almost identical?!
This.
What KILLS me is that hardly anyone likes riding pigs, and now that horses are being introduced with a system of riding that will most definitely be near identical to that of the pig's, they're all psyched and pumped for it. Mob mentality is a terrible thing.
The only foreseeable differences I can make with horse/pig riding are:
- Horses might be able to jump at any given point rather than the pig's collision with a one black tall incline
- Horses will be ride-able without the use of an item that must be out at all times
- You'll be slightly higher in the air on horses
Honestly, besides those three probable differences, pig riding and horse riding will be nearly the same, I bet.
I think horse riding will be quicker than on a pig. Also being able to jump is a possibility. Will allow for long distance travel, something pigs aren't used for. Horses could become the "boat" on land. When traveling across a huge ocean, it's best to boat across than swim. Swimming is slower and takes up hunger. Horses would allow you to travel far and fast without you having to dash and hop which eats up hunger points.
Riding pigs is more of a silly idea. I don't mind horses, but I would like another use for pigs, as the only thing that makes them unique now is being able to be ridden, but that requires finding a saddle and a carrot if you want to control it, and even then they're slow and not useful. Only for a good laugh maybe. For the first time.
I just don't see why people don't like the horse idea. Pigs were already practically useless. I've only ridden a pig once, maybe twice. I can see me using a horse every session. I do like to travel far. I mean, who likes to build near spawn on multiplayer?
Op, may I point out that the horses you have such (overkill) devotion for, are not unique either. Also, you're beating a (thankfully) dead horse. STOP IT!
Well, let's see what dictionary.com has to say. Ah, its fifth description is perfect for this.

5. created, undertaken, or presented for the first time
And I'm pretty sure not many games, if not none, has ever allowed the riding of a pig for transportation. Minecraft was probably the first.

I'm sure pigs have been used in games before. Animals have been ridden in games before. People have probably ridden pigs before in real life.
I don't think riding on a pig is one of Minecraft's most original features.
You people need to go to a farm, TONS of pig owners ride their pigs back and forth, and the carrot on a stick is a luring technique (sort of original)
So people who say that riding pigs are "so original to minecraft" stop. It's not.
What the hell are you talking about i have lived on a farm most my life and never rode a pig for transport..hell most my friends where born and raised on farms and nether did they. Maybe you need to go to a farm

To me it sounds like you don't think these are big differences, but they are. You just won't really experience these differences until they actually are in the game.
Being able to jump with a horse would actually make mount riding much more useful, so you can get someplace a lot faster.
Not needing an item in your hand will let you hit mobs while riding. Imagine using your arrow while riding on a horse! To me that sounds freaking awesome!
Like I said, the abilities the horse will give you won't seem like much now, but once everyone tries the horse out, I'm pretty sure we'll end up loving it.

Alright, NOW I understand what you guys mean, I was under the impression that you were saying no one has ever ridden pigs in real life, and I live near tons of farms, I'm not saying they use them for transport, I'm just saying they ride them for fun.
Can't we just wait and see now? Everyone immediately jumps to "I bet it's like...", "Well, it definitely won't be any different than...", "It'll make ___ obsolete, so..."
We don't know anything yet, can't we just wait until we know something about them now? Honestly, take a seat, get a cup of tea going, get your feet up and just wait it out. I promise you it'll be a lot more enjoyable than fretting about things no one knows.
Here, I'll make a deal with everyone, WHEN it come out, I will make a Biased video on both The Pig, AND the horse. And leave it to everyone else to decide which is Acually better.

Who thinks that is fair?
Me.
I wanted to do the same. Actually. I had a machinima in mind about how an angry mob of steves protests against horses abd talks sbout cons. And then another mob of angry steves comes and talks about the pros of horses.
OT:
In a game yes. Also, quite unusual in real life. I live "next" to a farm (actually I live on a hill and I see the farm). But I never saw a pig being ridden. Thinking now, it would be wuite suicidal. I mean, HOGS !!!

So what you are telling me is where you are form people ride animals that like to roll around in the own sh*t all day, and then you get on them and ride them around for fun.....

Your wrong, Jeb just posted a picture. Horses can now wear armor and can be tied with a rope.

Something to everyone: You like pigs? ride the pigs. You like horses? Ride the horses. Isn't Minecraft about doing anything you want? Answer: Yes, but people forget that way to often.
~ Sorry for my English, it is not my main language.
What I was trying to say is that Minecraft is about choosing what you want to do. If there was something you wanted to be in Minecraft and it is not, you can always suggest and hope they will add it. Like me I suggested horses with wagons back in 2011 at times of Beta and look now after two years I see they are adding horses.

Everyone is saying that Minecraft is original because of the Riding pigs feature.
